To be fair TDK stayed in theaters 33 weeks with the oscar push whereas TA stayed in 22 weeks, which exactly 1/3 lesser time

I think this one is difficult to predict. Maleficent is a wild card to me and could break out like hell. It has been 5 years since Jolie has been absent as an actress and she has mega charisma and international status. Adults, not just children, but adults could flock en masse just to see her playing a villain.

Maybe it's because TASM was previously set to open on friday and just changed its date lately.

For me, Raimi was too fresh in my memory to not compare them. There are things i like better in TASM...like the relationship between Gwen and Peter and Gwen is a better character than MJ. But for the rest i still prefer SM1 over TASM1...how it flows together,how the story is told, the way uncle Ben died, the impact on Peter and his evolution towards SM. I also prefer the campiness (it has its charm) and naivity of Peter Parker in SM1 than the slightly arrogant and douchey one in TASM. I will still watch TASM2 because i love Spidey regardless and he was my most beloved Marvel's character before IM. Plus SM2 is still for me tied with CAWS as the best sequel in a CBM tying perfectly the number 1 movie to the number 2.

What matter is for CAWS to have a nice drop, like around 55% wether it finishes number 1 or number 2.

Quite frankly, i don't see how it could miss $300 million next weekend with the school hollidays in many european countries, Brasil release and China adding up.

Yep it started in a numbers of market in about 10 days. But many of those markets are also on Easter Holliday (college, schools closed) right now so could make up for a rush, watching it next week and weekend for many youngsters before TASM2 open. Also TASM2 opens in China next month so it gives this movie a whole month to do what it needs to do in the second biggest market. I beleive TASM will do massive business and will first hurt CAWS when it opens then it will stabilize. I also think more adults will constitute the last audience for CAWS when TASM will open.

I rememberred IM3 opened on a wednesday, during the ODON hollidays. So i think the $63M were for those 5 days and not the traditional 3 days weekend. Here they just picked the official 3 days weekend since CAWS opened on friday.
