I haven't really followed the box office a lot per say, but I started following it a little when I joined here around the time Frozen came out. Now I keep tabs on the BO whenever there's a movie that I love out (Frozen, Zootopia, Inside Out...)
Just because a movie got a high gross doesn't mean that a lot of people (or at least the general fandom) liked it. Minions crossed over a billion, that had mixed reviews, and it should have been direct-to-DVD in the first place.
To quote Disgust in Inside Out: "That's it, I'm done." * walks away*
I don't see HOW, in any way, this could work as a film. I mean, maybe a short film, but feature-length?
For someone who claims Joy is his dominant emotion, I'm beginning to think it's more Disgust and Anger. Just saying.
There's still an opportunity for more trailers.
My personal Pixar theory that makes way more sense than the "Pixar Theory": All Pixar films take place in the same universe in that they're all filmed as movies.
I'd be up for that. Given the usual 4 month timeframe between a film's release in theaters and the DVD release, IO should be on DVD here in the US by then.
Movies based on side characters are tough to pull off. Plus, Pixar seems back in form with Inside Out, and The Good Dinosuar seems like it has a shot at being good too.
