  1. Slightly disappointing that I just ventured into this thread hoping to get entertained, but instead we've got a boring number and as a result a rather boring thread. Oh well...
  2. I wonder if any animated movie will be able to reach 500m in the near future. The Incredibles 2 might do it or Frozen 2. Zootopia 2 would probably have a shot, too, but that's quite a few years down the line (if it ever happens).
  3. Pets will probably still crack 100m, but Minions OW is out of reach now. Even with a comparatively bad multi for animation, it'll hit 300m. Wonder how high it'll be able to go intrnationally.
  4. So, if Pets hits 300m+ and Moana, Sing, Trolls etc. all do well, too, could this be officially the best year for animation in history (box office-wise)? I have a hard time remembering another year where the genre thrived that much.
  5. I agree that it should make more than the first movie ($200-250m). I just don't see it being another Zootopia-sized blockbuster. But as always with box office, we can't say for sure until the film is released.
  6. I don't think WiR2 is going to be all that big. IMO they've taken too long for the sequel and the first movie wasn't exactly a huge hit either. RPO is a wildcard that could go either way (although right now I'm leaning more towards it being a big hit). Deadpool 2 is gonna slay everything, though I don't know how much higher it can go than the original (especially if it's R again). On another note, that's a huge number for Pets. Animation continues to kick ass this year which is great to see. 300m+ is locked even with mediocre legs.
  7. With that title it probably would've made $100m+ this weekend.
  8. I think it's funny that TFA is going to make $90-95 million in its third weekend which is more than what some people thought it would make on its OW, yet people are still complaining. Sometimes I just don't understand this forum.
  9. How the fuck can this movie STAY FLAT or maybe even INCREASE from the biggest Tuesday ever?????
  10. It looks like the domestic part is going to be bigger than usual for blockbusters. Maybe as high as 40%.
  11. The fact that we're talking about a movie potentially having a 150m+ SECOND WEEKEND would be absurd regardless of the month, but the fact that we're in FUCKING DECEMBER makes this just not feasible. This movie is a beast unlike anything mankind has ever seen.
  12. Positive: - the new characters worked so well. Finn is extremely likeable, Rey is a very well-rounded character and Poe is a badass. BB-8 couldn't have been much cuter and funnier than he was. Kylo Ren was an awesome villain, though obviously nowhere close to Darth Vader (but that should have been expected). - the old cast also worked great. Harrison Ford was strong as were most of the other familiar faces. - the action scenes were terrific, especially the chase on Jakku and the lightsabre fight at the end. - the movie was a lot funnier than I expected. Great humor that unlike the prequels didn't feel forced. The scene where BB-8 gets out the lighter to salute Finn had my whole audience roaring with laughter. - beautiful cinematography. Jakku and the other planets looked gorgeous. - visuals and FX were top-notch as expected. - the confrontation between Han and Kylo was quite emotional and well-made. - the cliffhanger at the end while kind of mean still worked quite well for me in even more eagerly anticipating Episode VIII. - the acting was much better than in the prequels and even better than Episode IV IMO. Negative: - some of the side characters (Max von Sydow, Maz Kanata, CAPTAIN PHASMA!!!) felt underused. - while in general I didn't have a problem with many plot points from A New Hope being redone, Starkiller/Death Star #3 really felt too similar to the OT. - although Han and Kylo's confrontation was great, Han's actual death and especially the reactions to it could've been handled better. Especially Leia didn't seem as affected as she should've been. - speaking of Leia, she wasn't that good in the movie. Her character didn't appear much and Fisher's acting wasn't exactly great, either. - the score was solid, but apart from the reuse of old themes, didn't stand out. Overall, though, The Force Awakens was tons of fun and injected some much-needed life and energy into the franchise. Rian Johnson got an awesome template from Abrams and will hopefully make Episode VIII even better than its predecessor. Rating: B+ or 8.5/10
  13. So, what are the odds of it breaking the non-opening Wednesday record. Currently Transformers has it with $29.1 million. To beat that TFA would have to drop less than 22%. Is that realistic?
  14. Hey guys! After a long hiatus I'm back on the forums. Unfortunately I missed all the fun during TFA's OW, but I sure as hell won't miss the rest of this historic run. I have to say, though, that despite all the hype surrounding this film and whatnot, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this would make nearly $250m OW in FUCKING DECEMBER. HOLY SHIT!!! At this point, I really think the question isn't if it'll beat Avatar, but rather by how much it'll beat it. Not sure about 1bn domestic, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did it. It would definitely deserve it, though. It's a fantastic film.
  15. I think while None of These numbers scream huge breakout to me, they aren't bad either. This weekend's box office is certainly much more interesting than the last few (except maybe last week).
  16. Yeah, since Up no Pixar movie has even cracked 2mio. admissions. But that will change next year since Finding Dory is gonna be massive.
  17. Wow! That's a huge number for SOC. But I'm happy that we're ending summer with a bang after the last few weeks have been relatively boring (except F4's epic bombing of course).
  18. Exactly. Compton should be quite frontloaded, at least over the weekend.
  19. I always have to smile at the scene in your sig. Probably my favorite Stan Lee cameo.
  20. I don't know. Pixar hasn't fared too well here with their last few movies, so anything above 1,5mil should probably be considered a success, though I obviously hope for more.
