  1. We have different views, but I really enjoyed this talk. And it gave me a few ideas for my book so thank you
  2. The fact that BvS might make less money than Zootopia in China is depressing.
  3. Yeah, because having that kind of power you are content to spend your years working a menial job... All in all, there's a reason why politicians are in 99% of the cases corrupt. That BvS trailer put it well: power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. As for being a sociopath, that is a completely subjective matter. Back in the Inquisition age or even the Nazi one, killing certain people was considered normal - my point being that the definition of certain social elements are given by those in power (working in the legal system I see that every day - a law says something is illegal one day, then dismisses it the next one) . And those that hold absolute power can define anything they want because they are the ultimate decision makers and no one can say they are wrong. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that you and me can talk endlessly about being good and kind and all that, but I sincerely thing that having that kind of power would turn 99.9% of the planet in power hungry "sociopaths". It's just the human nature.
  4. Actually, the most unrealistic thing in MOS is that Clark didn't obliterate those morons who bothered him and lived his life like a social recluse despite being basically god. This part in the SH movies/comics always bothers me. Every SH just decides he/she wants to use his/her powers for others lol.
  5. It doesn't per se. But it is hard to imagine a very colorful movie that manages to retain a dark atmosphere. What Warner is excelling at is pushing the boundaries of the PG-13 rating. If you ask me that rating is a pain in the ass. It costs companies money and creative choices. DCU as a whole and it's dark themes should be associated with a hell lot of violence that can't be put on screen. The movies are as dark as they can be without being rated R. And of course they are taking themselves seriously. I just don't understand how, as a writer or moviemaker you could use serious themes but sweeten things up in a very unrealistic manner. The real world is the real world. Those fantasy elements need to be introduced as realistically as they can. How would society react to a being like Supes? Religions would form around him, violent cults. Riots in the streets, wars and all. I feel like, except for X-Men, where the problem of mutant acceptance is pushed forward in a realistic way, none of the other SH movies do what they have to. As for Godzilla, I felt that it wasn't dark enough.
  6. I liked Cloverfield for it's all out destruction porn. Can someone tell me if this is the same or it is more of a psychological thriller where what's happening outside is just suggested?
  7. Why? They are far and away the best studio out there. They brought a lot of great franchises to the screen and they actually spend the big bucks on original SF movies, which makes them awesome. As for this thread: as much as most Marvel movies are boring to me, the latest trailer for CW was amazing! It made me excited for that movie. And it wasn't Spidey (the costume looks bloody awful compared to the previous ones), but Iron-Man. I doubt I will watch any Marvel movie after he is out and I hope he whoops Cap's ass in this. BvS though is much more interesting to me thematically because the book I'm writing right now is concentrated more or less on the same themes: the appeal of absolute power, the corruption, people's tendency to associate a religious aura to beings of great power etc (that is why I hoped after the first teaser that Supes would turn dark, but oh well).
  8. Yeah, I noticed that too. I hope we get it this week and not next week. I need it for my year to year growth tracking.
  9. I'd say 5 movies over 100k adm in March: Zootopia, Allegiant, Kung Fu Panda 3, London Has Fallen and Batman v Superman.
  10. Can't believe I haven't seen this till now. So damn good, from acting, to the story, to the emotional punch. A
  11. Gods of Egypt had an even bigger OW than I expected with 71.712 admission and $384k and WOM seems to be strong (8.4/10 on Cinemagia). It should make over $1m and it might actually be amongst the year's Top 10, as I predicted. Dirty Grandpa continued to have incredible holds and passed the $1m border. Only the second movie this year to do so after Deadpool. And speking of Deadpool, with $1.34m after 3 weeks it is already the second highest grossing superhero flick ever, behind only Thor 2. That will be passed as well by next weekend. Zooptopia and Brothers Grimsby open next weekend.
  12. Ok, just woke up and watched some parts of this: I'm so happy for Leo! Freakin finally! Best pic winner... eh, I will see it now. And Sam Smith winning after that Lady Gaga performance... it was hilarious and tragic at the same time! Like, for real?
  13. Well, it will be huge here. Maybe it won't end up in Top 10 for 2016 as I predicted, but it won't be very far either. It's selling out in a lot of places. It should hold well next weekend with no major competition. In two weeks though, Allegiant will destroy it (Insurgent was bigger than most Hunger Games here).
  14. Considering it opens EVERYWHERE (except for Poland), China included, on the same date, I'd say 400M is very very likely.
  15. Lol, the vitriol for this movie is hilarious. People complaining about Depp being front and center are also funny. Just as with POTC he is the star of the franchise. Ofc he is front and center. And let's be honest, this is directed to OS audiences, where it will make over 500m for sure. US will make what it will make.
  16. It is even more stunning when you consider that it is not a brand. The fact that original blockbusters like this could appear in China every year is mindblowing.
  17. Deadpool just registered the 6th biggest OW ever in admissions, with a fantastic 118.149 tickets sold and and $562k. That completely obliterates the previous record holder for the superhero genre, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which opened to 70.118 adm and $385k. Complete analysis coming later today.
  18. Superhero movies follow the same trend here but Deadpool is a freak. I could almost double the previous record holder for the highest OW for a CBM.
  19. Comparing it to here, wow, the difference in ticket prices is pretty big. 11.1 M tickets were sold in Romania in 2015, yet the BO gross in Euros was only 47M. What do you expect for this year? I think here the admissions will land somewhere between 12.5 - 13M (another high, just like every year). 2016 is currently running 16% ahead of 2015 in adm and the difference will only get bigger this weekend with Deadpool recording one of the best OWs ever.
  20. @Telemachos With all the fanboy fantasies this year (DC, Marvel, HP, SW) and the fan wars I wish you all the best. It must be hard to be a mod.
  21. Not really. I am actually more surprised of people that haven't heard of Oliver Twist. That is weird.
  22. LOL, how are you completely ignoring BvS and CW? And yes, I think SS will make more too. Marketing for it till now has been nothing short of incredible.
  23. As much as I am excited to see it and and happy for an R-rated movie breaking out, c'mon, Deadpool won't even be in Top 3 CBM's this year, neither DOM or WW. Not that that is taking away from it's amazing accomplishment. And, not that anyone else cares, but that seems like an ok number for How to Be Single.
  24. Harry Potter LOTR/PJ POTC Transformers DC
