  1. fuck, i'm high on coke and now all my friends are gone. can someone pls tell me to stop. I just keep taking it until someone tells me to stop. Just give me a reason, any reason.
  2. PSA, cineworld has its (annual?) "IMAX fest" in two weeks. Dunkirk, Beauty and the Beast, GOTG2, It, and Thor 3. https://www.cineworld.co.uk/static/en/uk/imax-film-fest Need to figure out which of these is actually any good in IMAX (apart from Dunkirk obvs)
  3. Black Panther opened in 4020 theaters, Greek Wedding opened in 108 theaters, that's 37.2x more. So more realistic domestic total is $ 2.176 billion.
  4. that's just unrealistic, since you're using a limited release opening multiplier. should really keep expectations in check.
  5. fuck you @redfirebird2008 beat me to it
  6. Maybe Black Panther will have Greatest Showman legs and get to $4.8 billion domestic
  7. Raiders of the Lost Ark v. Doctor Zhivago Jaws v. Batman (1989) The Godfather v. E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back v. Spider-Man (2002) The Lion King v. The Dark Knight The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King v. Fantasia Star Wars: A New Hope v. Jurassic Park Titanic v. Forrest Gump
  8. Why is Colin Trevorrow not directing btw? I originally thought he lost the gig of JW2 after he was dropped from Star Wars, but he's clearly still a key creative player given that he's writing and exec producing the second and third film? Also, wonder if Spielberg will ever return to direct another one of these given that he's directing another Indiana Jones movie.
  9. And yet The Force Awakens beat all those numbers. How would you adjust Phantom Menace which made 500M overseas in 1999 by the way?
  10. That's why Jim Cameron made a T2 3D release right? And a Titanic 3D release? Because post 3D effects are a cheap cash grab, whereas these movies were made with 3D in mind in the first place! After all, James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron.
  11. No I'm not, I'm saying that based on your argument that all the Harry Potter films sold more tickets than the Avengers movies, is wrong because 660M in 2010 is not worth more than 900M in 2012. It just isn't. Sorry.
  12. Yes, you can say Avengers was bigger than Avatar, because it was. It made more money. That's how box office works. What do you mean by "Marvel films made more money but they weren't bigger". That literally means nothing. I'm aware that the numbers don't include inflation, but for example DH1 made 660M, Avengers made 900M two years later. Does the rest of the world have a 40% inflation rate in two years? Hmm. Why does it matter that it wasn't in China? Like literally how is that relevant. In some markets Harry Potter is bigger than MCU and Star Wars, in some it is not. But overall speaking, internationally, overseas, both Avengers and Star Wars make more money. Simple as that. Sorry. Might also mention that Fantastic Beasts had China and it doesn't change anything.
  13. Not really. It makes them money, if Netflix gave them more money than they'd receive from international gross then they made the right choice, simple as that really. Good reviews don't make a high grossing movie you know.
  14. I see. Is China not an OS territory? It doesn't count - because you want your favourite film to be the best, right? The ACTUAL biggest franchise OS is Fast and Furious. Which its 2 most recent movies have grossed over 1B OS. But who really cares about actual factual numbers, on a box office forum?
  15. yeah I know you're here, just thought you meant you were surprised in some way since you said "even"
  16. Harry Potter movies all did around 600M OS except the final one. In contrast, Civil War did 750M, IM3 800M, and both Avengers did 900M. As for Star Wars? Force Awakens did 1.1B OS. Jedi has done 700M. This #FakeNews delusion that @Noctis has attempted to trick everyone into believing, that "Potter is the biggest OS franchise" is 100% horseshit and simply, objectively, not true.
  17. "even" in the UK? We love musicals. It's done like twice as well as it has in America. Same goes for la la land, which grossed more than Logan and Wonder Woman this year. Mamma Mia outgrossed The Dark Knight that year. The same year that High School Musical 3 outgrossed Iron Man Les Mis outgrossed Frozen.
