  1. no idea what you did but this makes us Ban-Buddies now
  2. no reason to think it will do especially well other than that it's been well received in the US.
  3. Ah, so this is where all the additional donation money goes...
  4. Oh I can't imagine he's sad about Batman at all, he has no reason to be, he's been well received and he is paid handsomely for it. He might have all sorts of stuff going on in his life. Much as people like to joke about him, I hope he doesn't have a breakdown -- not that looking grim in a few interviews is any indication of someone's mental state, but still.
  5. All sorts of things could be on his mind, people don't need to keep going on about this whole "laugh at sadfleck" thing. Give it a few years and if he stays like this, next thing you know he'll be jumping on the couch.
  6. Holy crap. La La Land opened to £6M. That's like... the same number that Iron Man smashed it open to in 2008. £6M is phenomenal.
  7. huh, that is strange. I would offer 2 explanations: 1) the cinemas all reduced its showtimes drastically / gave it bad showtimes since it performed badly in 1st week. This is what we did in the cinema I worked for, if we were contractually obliged to show a film for a 2nd week, and it did really badly we would just show it at like 1 showing a day at 11pm. 2) the opening weekend was inflated from families who attended thinking it was a family film. The marketing has been a big problem and this I imagine is what caused the big drop.
  8. Even so, it should have done better. It's not exactly a popular genre but the cast alone should have drawn in at least a few people. 5M is truly abysmal.
  9. 12M opening for Patriots Day is hardly bright even with positive WOM, given its budget of 45M and its lack of appeal internationally. Also - what the hell happened with Live By Night? What went so wrong?
  10. I can't see either of those reaching 300M. As for why that is... difficult to say and I'm not about to try and figure it out.
  11. you're in Duxford right? out of curiosity what makes you choose Huntingdon over Haverhill which is a lot closer? hell actually from Duxford I would think Stevenage is the same distance as Hunts from you. & btw there is also a cineworld in St Neots which is slightly closer than Hunts but it's brand new and much nicer sorry if I've asked you this before
  12. so even accounting for the +22% extra cinemas this weekend, LLL is going to increase from last weekend... that's nuts. Nothing will stop this train.
  13. it's evidently doing great here in the UK & I am sure it will post good numbers for an opening weekend. If Lionsgate is anticipating $6 million then that is great. That means it would be looking at $25 million finish as a minimum, with potential to do much more.
  14. I really don't get what's meant to be so great about this movie. I love love love Emma Stone and she's her normal charismatic, likeable self, but I really didn't care about either of the two characters and their apparent struggles. ("Waaah I've just been offered a 50K/year job after being literally fucking unemployed but it's not my perfect dream job") I like Gosling as well but the characters are so empty and shallow. Given that at one point a casting director says they have no script and are letting the characters form around the actors, I have to wonder if this was deliberate... Aside from Stone, Gosling and a few technical feats, I found almost nothing to like. I was quite bored throughout and at one point when I went to the toilet, spent a few minutes checking Facebook as I wasn't interested in the film. Oh and isn't this meant to be a MUSICAL? And yet upon leaving the cinema, I couldn't hum you one line of anything in the film. It's a musical without a single good song, and for me that makes the film an instant failure.
  15. I'm glad romcoms have died out, 99% of them were terrible.
  16. evidently there is some truth to what you say, as there are reports all over of people walking out of this. However, I don't think it is inaccessible. It is a very difficult, provocative and challenging movie, but it's not especially complicated or hard to understand. The story itself is (as Tele said above) very straightforward. this isn't some arty-farty wishy-washy film where nothing makes sense & you have to do all the work yourself. it is a serious film and as I said there are some very complex ideas that are difficult to answer. But it really wasn't anywhere near as 'niche' or closed-off or whatever as I had heard it was. I think more people should give it a try.
  17. Wow. Just, wow. I have no words - I need some time to process everything I just watched. I'm very glad you were wrong.
