bonkers weekend numbers, even more bonkers weekday numbers for a kids movie. Don't think I have been so wrong about a film's box office in a long time. even up until last week I still only thought it would open to 80M lol.

I've been seeing people predict stupid numbers on no basis.

The fuck?? I was predicting like 75-80M opening. Where did this come from?

I've seen the trailers and adverts for Ghost in the Shell hundreds of times and still have no idea what on earth it's about. imo paramount has done a poor job of conveying the point of the film. It's OK to have complex/convoluted plots but you have to find a way to sell them, which I think they've completely failed at other than showing Scarlett Johansson pretending to be Asian.

Are there many examples of live action anime films? At least ones that got wide global releases. The Last Airbender lost money, sure, but if you ignore the budget, the numbers it grossed were not awful.

Seen almost no marketing for power rangers and i suspect it'll flop. Won't grab/interest people like Transformers did (and similar to TMNT) because it's not really anything they haven't seen before. Power Rangers was always live action whereas most people know Transformers and TMNT from cartoons and toys.

good numbers for both movies. Has anyone seen Kong in 4DX? I am tempted to go tonight as I haven't tried 4DX before and got nothing better to do... is the experience worth a try? I have already seen the movie btw.

Saw this last night. Not quite as well structured as the first one and the story was basically non existent, so I wasn't as involved as the first one. BUT I fucking love the world building in this, really expands on the first one. The idea that there are all these secret criminal dealers hidden inside clothes factories, in bookshops, etc and the criminals trade in gold coins. Communicating via typewriters and carrier pigeons. Seeing a network of disguised homeless people that are spies. Just a really exciting and imaginative fantasy criminal underworld. And then this idea that there are bounty hunters all over - seeing him walk through streets and just get attacked by hidden figures. And the action is well choreographed, some really cool set pieces - the whole thing looks and feels great.

Damn, $240M opening is bonkers. It's almost doubled its budget in OW.

There are plenty of modern westerns that don't follow that ruleset. No genre is defined by the type of weapons it has, or the buildings etc.

I follow a few critics and hugely respect them as a whole, but I really can't understand the notion of "if X critic doesn't like it then I'm worried". Just go see the movie and judge for yourself.

Really hope this can make bank. That $190M budget is quite high though. Looking forward to it regardless.

I loved it, audience was silent so don't know how they felt. Girl I was with whos a massive xmen fan thought it was great. (I haven't seen most of the movies and don't like the ones I have seen)

spot on about Ice Age. They have completely given up, made no attempt to even try to make something resembling an actual film. at least the film took a massive nosedive at the box office. That moment in Dirty Grandpa was really horrible, I agree.

RE6 has apparently made $6.5M / Y45M today, that seems fine as a hold from $90M opening.

£10M opening seems very high, doubt it will get near that much. edit: forgot it releases on Wednesday. Yeah that would be a very good number for it. Still think it's slightly optimistic though.
