  2. I'll certainly try my hardest! Ughhhhh... I really don't like voting people out...
  3. Which would be counterintuitive anyway, because The Meg is one of those collaborations between Hollywood and China, evident by how the film stars multiple Chinese actors and actresses.
  4. Well, I think this film will end up being the recipient of the worst film Razzie during awards season. That's just the way I think it'll turn out.
  5. Not only did Open Road have three hits, they had a best picture winner... what they've been doing as of late is disappointing to me based on that.

  7. I'm kind of bored right now, so I want to take the opportunity to talk about two recent Shonen Jump titles that I think will become fairly big when their animes air in 2019, those two titles being Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and The Promised Neverland. I've begun reading their manga volumes recently and I'm extremely impressed by the quality and the compelling nature of both series. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba takes place in 17th or 18th century Japan; the story begins when a young man's sister is turned into a demon, and the protagonist's quest to cure her sets him on a path towards becoming a demon-slaying swordsman. This is a traditional story told effectively, which I believe will garner a lot of attention. The anime is being created by the studio Ufotable, who is most famous for Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works and God Eater. The Promised Neverland is a mystery/thriller about orphans who must escape their orphanage after finding out about its dark, sadistic purpose. The narrative is extremely compelling, and it cultivates suspense and fear for the characters fairly well. This one in particular has the potential to strike a chord with audiences in America and Europe for sure, as the story feels like a more accessible one. The anime is being made by Cloverworks - a newly established studio whose original mecha show, Darling in the Franxx, which recently burst through the stratosphere in terms of viewership. A wise industry veteran once said to those wanting to create anime that it is better for them to find their inspiration outside of anime. I feel like these two stories have big potential to break out, because, through my experience as a manga reader, both stories have done just that.
  8. I should've known something was fishy when this failed to be shown at Comic-Con.
  9. Well, it's the certain kind of film that would open on a Wednesday, if you know what I mean. I kind of meant it as a joke. Nothing against the film at all; I'm hoping it does well!
  10. Interesting news! https://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/ The film is now releasing on August 8th, this Wednesday! It's one of those films now!
  11. I just noticed the leap in theater count to 1,500 and I think that's incredible! Hopefully people know about it!
  12. 1. BlacKkKlansman 2. The Meg 3. Alpha 4. Mile 22 5. Searching 6. Kin 7. Operation Finale 8. God Bless The Broken Road 9. Unbroken: Path To Redemption 10. Papillon
  13. The working conditions are awful, though. I would take citizens that aren't miserable over unneeded surplus any day of the week. That's just me.
  14. When I view the capitalism/socialism debate, I look at it through the eyes of my father, who owns his own small business. And I reflect on tthe fact that, through the American Constitution, my dad has the right to the business he made -- that is his private property. But my father's business wouldn't belong to him under socialism, right? That's a scary thought, because my dad is the one that understands his business, not anyone else. Socialism as something for someone to live by on their own accord? Sure! I call that "good spirited capitalism". And that's about helping people when the person has the freedom to do so -- that's how I want to utilize capitalism when I enter the work force. But to force everyone under a socialist system? That's forcing people to live a certain way, whereas in Capitalism, they can make their own decisions with their lives, their liberty, and their pursuit of happiness. I understand that you are a film enthusiast and that movies have blatantly said 'business people are bad' for many decades and that there was likely some influence there, but I believe that kindness mean more when we aren't under a regime that's forcing us to go out of our way. Let's promote helping each other instead of ordering it. That's why I stand beside Good Spirited Capitalism, not the inaccurate representation that is stuff like crony capitalism.
  15. Aren't democrats beginning to run on platforms of socialism recently? That wouldn't result in a free country at all, based on what I learned in my class about global capitalism. I think America's political system is much more complicated than 'one side is good and the other side is bad'. People on the right are flawed, but so are people on the left. That's why we need to allow ourselves to learn from each other. Free countries don't remain free by choosing between extremes, but by comprising, and being tolerant of other people's beliefs.
  16. Well, the voice acting is hit or miss and the trailer shows a little too much, but other than that, I think there is some fun slapstick and some great animation in there. I think the trailer also hints at more impactful moments in the narrative. I think this should leap past $100M, though it might cut it close.
  17. Okay. I wasn't able to vote in 2016 but, as a would-be reluctant Trump voter, I see what you mean. I don't believe that a man is the sum of his comments, especially in the Twitter age, but with his high profile, he should know better. It sucks that there's only two options on election day, really. I think it sucks that people overlook one's good deeds and focus on the bad ones (though Trump has said some sketchy things for sure). I dunno. I just think it's wrong to say, "if you support one thing then you support everything else." Maybe the best case scenario for the film's gross will be enough to keep the ones involved from starving, but not enough to be called a success. They may not deserve it, but I choose to wish that they receive grace and mercy. And maybe, when the time comes to vote in the 2024 primaries, Republicans from all over America will rally behind someone who isn't essentialy a douchebag. (The gif above is a joke; I'm sorry; if I saw the film, I might agree. I'm not gonna waste my time with it though.)
  18. That's why I'm disappointed. It's okay if that's what they want to do but I think it'd be more interesting to see them take a risk or two. Hopefully Smallfoot is able to do well...
  19. Well, what are the 'informed' informed of, then? And how were they informed? And I'm gonna have to see from an analysis video in the future on whether or not the film is lying to people. I'll also have to see a 'works cited' list, or a lack of one, before I can definitely say that they are lies. Because right now, I've only seen that the film has poorly-made arguments. And they have a right to make that argument, even though it should be explained more in depth. You're being pretty hateful yourself with choice of words like that. Trump, D'Souza, and the film may not be pleasing, but a film isn't worth cursing out half the country's population over. However, it is worth voicing your opinion in a positive manner, so that people will be willing to listen. (Sorry if anything I'm saying is rude or derogatory; I can't find my keys so I'm a little frustrated.)
  20. Biblical quotes are a great device for film imo. Ghost in the Shell, Raging Bull, and True Grit (2010); all regular films that used biblical quotes in interesting, subverise ways. I'm gonna have to look up those posters because I'm interested in looking into how they utilized the verse!
  21. There's people with families at Quality Flix, and there's people with families that worked on the film, and I don't think it'd be good for anyone to be shortchanged due to an overly low gross. In this regard, I always hope that films do as well as they can. The film might deserve to flop, but the filmmakers don't deserve to starve. That's why I think it's good that the President of the United States has endorsed this film, because that is a direct message to the film's target audience. Would I be wrong to be happy about that? The film is renderred harmless, anyway. It's not like anyone on the left isn't going to dismiss this.
  22. That's a shame; I thought he was a good president. I saw a video where he was giving a speech about the times and I thought is was alright. He was a part of the democratic party, sure, but racism is racism, no matter the stripes. I won't scorn that president forever but that's definitely interesting to know about him.
  23. Endorsement from the President of the United States! You can't get much better than that! This'll impact the film's gross for sure!
