  1. I've had a thought. For Original Screenplay, four locked nominees are in the process of being solidified: The Favourite, Roma, Green Book, and Vice. That leaves one more spot up for grabs, and with nothing else to really achieve this season, A24 will want to make a leap for that wildcard spot. But I don't think the A24 film with the best chance would be Eighth Grade. I think it would be First Reformed. First Reformed was written and directed by Paul Schrader. He's the guy that wrote Taxi Driver and Raging Bull... but he was never nominated for either of those scripts. The Academy loves to right past wrongs, and this would be a great chance to do it. The screenplay for First Reformed is a highly intellectual one, and based on what I've read about the film, it's a very tense, dramatic, and surprising one. I wholeheartedly believe that the film is a great candidate for Original Screenplay, and I think A24 knows that, too. We'll have to see how early critic-backed precursors go before the chance is solidified, but I definitely wouldn't count out the film's chance.
  2. I voted for Crimes of Grindelwald. I'm not necessarily a Potterhead, but I have an aunt that likes the Potter films, and visiting them for Thanksgiving, the family all saw the first Fantastic Beasts together - it's one of my favorite recent memories of going to the theater. That, and I personally relate to Newt Scamander.
  3. That's more than a little disappointing. I'm sure one of WAG's originals will hit it out of the park one day, but I guess this isn't the film to do it. I'm glad it's not an outright disaster, at least.
  4. Dang; I even bought and used both the candy apple and a poison apple, and that still didn't do anything to help me. Well, it's been fun, everyone. I have college to worry about anyway so maybe it's for the best that I'm eliminated. I'll still be keeping up with the story and commenting in these threads from time to time! I wish the best of luck to everyone!
  5. I didn't expect that to happen, to be honest. I'm really grateful to be able to keep playing the game! I thank you profusely for this decision @Sheikh!
  6. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/race/rosamund-pike-enters-jam-packed-actress-race-a-private-war-at-toronto-film-festival-1142747 Rosamund Pike might be in the race after all!
  7. I don't know where else I could talk about it, so I figured I'd post it here... I'm in the middle of Hurricane Florence right now, as we didn't evacuate. The Hurricane lost power as it came ashore... but, well, so did the house. Now, it's past 3:30 AM and there's a mysterious beeping noise coming all the way from the kitchen that's preventing me from sleeping. And I'm using my phone to type this, meaning I'll be losing a lot of battery overnight. I'm just worried that the garage is flooded or something. I'm too afraid I'll wake up my dad to check, though. Some of you who live more inland should count your blessings that you don't have to deal with hurricane season. That's all I'm trying to say. **** Edit: Florence's eye past us at around 7:00 AM, so we won't be getting the brunt of the winds anymore. It's a shame it took the entire night to move across. But the garage wasn't flooded or anything bad, so that's a good thing. Besides losing power, I don't think our house had significant damage. We're about to leave the house in a bit, so I'll be able to see how my town (Wilmington) faired as a whole.

  10. I've had a few ideas, myself. One would be with the tentative title of "The Miracles of Jesus". It would accentuate just how groundbreaking Jesus' words were to everyone around him. It would be from the point of view of the disciples - mostly of Peter's. Another film could be about the shepherd's journey to the manger, titled "Journey to the King". There could be a movie about the judge Deborah called "The Feminist". The film would be a rather artful film that strictly stands by the source material. And I also have an idea for a film about the Apocalypse; the titled would be "When Time Runs Out", and it would strictly be from humanity's point of view, starting just before the sound of the trumpet and ending at the moment when Jesus takes His people up to Heaven; in other words, one of the artistic statements would be that the true nightmare for those left behind is eternal separation from God. One idea for an animated family film that I just got two nights ago wouldn't be a faith based film per sé, but it'd be about a sheep that gets separated from the flock and must find a way back to the shepherd, and a scorpion that makes itself at home in its wool. In the film, the two would trade fun banter with one another, and they would go on this grand, atmospheric adventure full of beautiful scenery and dangerous peril before the sheep ultimately returns to the flock. The majority of my ideas aren't necessarily faith-based because I believe Christians should not aim to make Christian content per sé, but should rather make content that happens to be made by a Christian -- that's C.S. Lewis's ideology, and I think it rings true.
  11. I saw a little bit of Hellboy 2 and I saw the same director's touch that Del Toro employed for The Shape of Water. The guy is a genius and I think this film deserves to be on a list such as this.
  12. This is definitely an alien invasion film, that's for sure. I hope this succeeds!
  13. I'm taking Netflix's early involvememt as a sign of confidence in regards to how good this concept is. Plus, they got Idina Menzel. That's a steal. They definitely didn't get her by chance.
  14. I sure hope so! Even if Fox ends up making this a simple January release, it definitely wouldn't hurt them to get a trailer out to get the buzz rolling early.

  16. I like Henry Cavill, but nothing lasts forever, I guess. I'm open to change; it's something not just the "DCEU", but DC films as a whole desperately need.
  17. I find it interesting how high Frost /Nixon is on this list. It goes to show that while there might be films that deserve a Best Picture nomination more than a certain film or two, the fact remains that the arguably undeserving film was able to be in the conversation at all for a reason, and the reason is that the film in question certainly isn't meritless.
  18. I took a Creative Writing class last Spring semester where we analyzed the playwright of Doubt: A Parable and compared it to the film version. I think the screenplay got very much of its source material right, and the cast members wrre perfect for their roles. I was urged to put it in my top five so I'm glad to see that it made the list!
  19. Well, Neon has made sone eccentric choices thus far as a distributor, so I can't say I'm surprised. But whatever they choose to do with the film, I think they made a good choice. (Maybe if they release it this year, they can surprise a whole lot of people and sneak it into Best Comedy/Musical at the Golden Globes.)
  20. I'm neutral on the situation. I believe in a balance between forgiveness and justice; we should be more open to forgiving minor offenses after a long time in certain conditions, but sex offenses need to stick with perpetrators of any sort so that less people choose to go down that path. I think the guy should've known better and though about his future before he committed his offense, because the reality of our world is that people seek something to hate, something to ostracize, something to shun away. I think I'm just gonna pray for the man's well being and pray for his redemption, and keep going on my own merry way. This story does not affect my desire to see this film. Its reviews are fine enough and I am a fan of many of the actors that are a part of the cast.
