  1. Lol, did you make that one up by yourself?
  2. I only Liked this because it's funny. No offense, Fishnets.
  3. I really like HFR. It allowed me to follow the fast camera and actor movements much better. Watching TH in 24fps after seeing it in HFR was somewhat of a letdown. The one drawback to HFR was that there were a few times that the special effects looked fake; no such problem with 24.
  4. Wisconsin? It's Green Bay...GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEN BAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! GO PACK!! WOOOOOT!! *ahem* Sorry about that little outburst there. Now back to our thread.
  5. Meh, it seems to me that many of those people are young/immature. They'll learn. For now, I rather enjoy their - how shall I say - opinions. I find them charming in a weird way.
  6. LOL. I liked the "Dwarvesfest dinner". It was like watching my brothers eat when we were kids.
  7. I am a different sort of audience member. I like the movie-going experience, but am very picky about the types of movies I see. Basically, I like films that are reminiscent of the old-school story telling method (down-to-earth but larger than life characters, quaint/charming settings, the show-don't-tell approach). I don't like rom-coms or any type of chick flick, stay away from rated R movies and avoid movies that proffer political agendas, so I'm left with very little from which to choose. When I find a movie that fits my bill, I will see it. If I enjoy it, I will see it again. If I really enjoy it, I will see it multiple times and bring along friends and family to experience it with me. If that makes me a loony (loonie, looney) by whatever definition the members of this forum opt, then, okay. But I won't get into any debates or heated exchanges about it. I think the Hobbit is a fine film and look forward to seeing it again. Oh, and it's fine by me if folks on this board don't take me seriously. I've endured worse things in life.
  8. I'm not a Tolkien loony, so I can't speak for the fanboys, but I have seen TH 4 times. I consider it a fine movie, filled with the things that make movie-going a great experience for me; the visuals are stunning, the acting is superb, the pace is such that it demands different levels of engagement from the audience without providing an unpleasant whiplash effect, and the amount of detail built in makes it interesting to watch repeatedly. Plus, for the most part, it's good, clean fun. I'll be seeing it again this weekend.
  9. Of my 25 most favorite movies, this is number 8. Lumet could have filmed it as if he were shooting the stage play; instead, he used lighting, camera angles and the right number of extra touches to give 12AM a different feel while keeping it familiar. In fact, he upped the ante in many ways, stoking the dank tension by having the camera be the 13th juror. And while Fonda was great, his performance would have been as bland as the character he played were it not for Cobb's energy giving him something to reflect and deflect. Oh, and who couldn't have been endeared by a young Jack Klugman (RIP, Oscar).
  10. By this explanation, the problem with the decision to produce TH as three movies seems rooted in a dislike for Jackson that's being projected onto potential audiences at large. I would think that if regular folks decide to skip the movie, it's because they doubt it will be worth the time and expense, not because it will be followed by two more.
  11. Yes, but why would that matter to the general movie-goer or LOTR fan? I have a hard time imaging either group deciding not to see AUJ because TH will be three movies. I can imagine box office yokels doing so, but not fans or regular folk.
  12. I don't follow this line of reasoning. At this point, why would the audience care that it's three movies as opposed to one and why would that affect box office results?
  13. I can understand using the word "disappointing" to describe TH's performance, but not "disaster".
  14. It's not a movie for the uninitiated, that's for sure.
  15. I voted Yes because it's the response that comes closest to what I think; but actually, I think "negative" is too strong a word. I do think that certain posters take this stuff far too seriously, and as a result post replies that are over the top or unnecessarily abrasive.
  16. I saw it in HFR 3D and came away quite impressed. It looks more like what we would see in day to day life and less like a film, if that makes sense.
  17. I'm not a Hobbit fanboy by any stretch of the imagination, and had a rather tepid anticipation for this movie. But I have to say that it exceeded my admittedly low expectations by leaps and bounds. I think WOM will kick in and give this thing great legs. It'll get to 320m.
