  1. OK, I'll give it a whirl... Puma-Man Mama Mia Hobgoblins TF:ROTF Charlie's Angels Addams Family Values
  2. Holy cow, why are Fox and DW still tracking the Croods? Is it normal for studios to track a movie for this long?
  3. I just so happen to have some extra cash lying around. I'm in the mood for another viewing of TW.
  4. Wow, I didn't realize this board had so many members of the school-aged sect. I feel like a Mom who sent her kids off for the weekend: I enjoy the quiet, but something is missing.
  5. This. As much as it deserves a sequel, I doubt that said product will be as clever, groovy or engaging. I wouldn't be surprised if Ruffalo bows out.
  6. So sorry for your loss, Baumer. She looks like she was a real sweety.
  7. Having not seen the Prestige or any of the Ocean's remakes, I can't agree or disagree with your analogy. I can only say that in its own right, NYSM is very clever and has plenty of bits for folks to chew on if they care to do so, but still provides bang for the buck it they choose not to. That's nifty movie-making.
  8. Wait...you loved PR but you think NYSM is stupid? And you still have that terrifying avi! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! But I still think you're a good guy.
  9. I am concerned about the “non-sequel” mantra. It would be a shame if the likes of LR, PR, WHD and now RIPD discouraged the studios from going to untapped wells. Sequels and franchises are great, but they don't promote out of the box thinking. The problem with this summer's slate of non-sequels is not that they aren't part of a franchise, but that the general audience determined that they weren't worth their time or money. NYSM is a non-sequel and its run has surprised and pleased many; proof that if you give the general audience something that not only looks good, but is good, while not insulting their sentiments, they will give the movie a chance and encourage others to do the same.
  10. Pacific We Ought To Throw Tomatoes At Whoever Redefined The Word "Flop".
  11. LOL. Well, that makes one other thing in the film's favor. Honestly, when OY!
  12. TF07 has heart, and that's the main thing that sets it apart from PR. In terms of feel, PR is more akin to ROTF, heartless and soulless (though it's not crass, crude and lewd).
  13. Unfortunately, there’s not much good that I can say about Pacific Rim, because its flaws are not only glaring, but stupefying. On one hand it drops plot points like they were M&Ms spilling from a tipped-over candy dish. On the other it is paint-by-numbers predictable, to the point that it’s almost impossible to fully engage with the goings-on, since you already see what’s coming. The characters are all one-dimensional archetypes who, for the most part, fail to resonate. And that is an absolute NO-NO for a major motion picture, especially one that – at least in word – is supposed to connect with the general audience. Only Elba and the five year old girl manage to infuse any life into their characters, the other actors don’t even seem to try. Or, as is the case of the two researchers and second-in-command, they try too hard and thereby made their characters come across as buffoons. And that buffoonery had the aggravating effect of striping their scenes of any urgency, threat, or even meaning. (By the way, it’s bad enough when a movie has one character that takes you out of the moment. This movie has three. THREE! Not a good thing, GDT. Not a good thing.) I wish I could say the special effects were tremendous, but since most of the fights scenes occurred at night, it was difficult to spot details consistently. So I’ll just say that they weren’t bad. And I often didn’t know something “cool” had happened until after it happened. If the powers that be had a better handle on how to execute it, this could have been two and maybe even three very good movies. Instead it’s one terrible mess of a film.
  14. There were three characters in PR whom I wanted to punch in the face. Three! And for someone coming to this movie relatively unfamiliar with the story, that's a no-no. Characterization and casting were definitely two of the biggest problems with the film.
  15. The early evening showing of NYSM at my theater was about 95% full. People are just cramming into fewer theaters to see it.
  16. Marx Bros & Bringing Up Baby. But you left out the Thin Man movies.
