Not to mention the difference between Spring break and Summer. I think Deadline reported 80% of K-12 are out today? That's a lot more than back in March
That, as well as the fact that it didn't get the same amount of volume showtime wise as other big releases like Guardians/SS. So it pushed a lot of the potential ticket buyers towards Sunday
It might lose some, but not every drive in has the GOTG/Pirates pairing. My rule of thumb is 100k for every 10 mil for the opener, so it wouldn't really account for the difference. Not to mention drive ins rarely operate on Sundays so it's not dropping from an "inflated" total
You're right that it will be largely walkup based, but I think we're at the point as a culture that a 30 mil ish opening would have shown up in some capacity by now. Especially since it's opening a day earlier than Pirates
Edit: err what Wrath said
Even if it was double featured with Life, Life did not make nearly enough money to see Passengers increase by this much. Some major fudging going on here
Tuesday increases were crazy for sure. Large part has to be some spillover effect from Beast; there's only so many showings from 5-10 pm. People probably went to something else if it was sold out
45% if schools were off that day. If we want to be technical, you're right, but not by much http://deadline.com/2017/03/beauty-and-the-beast-second-bests-march-monday-box-office-batman-v-superman-1202047652/
Drive in effect is pretty cool when the new film coming out is big enough. Not a lot of drive ins are. Open this week though. Usually not until May. This is the best example I've seen of the effect, see if you can guess the film http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=weekend&id=johncarterofmars.htm
