  1. Damn. Wanted Roma or BP. I’d say this is another Crash...but the movie did so well all season long and had screenplay and supporting actor. Damn.
  2. Is anyone actually surprised Spider-Verse won? It’s swept the awards season so far, of course it’d win the Oscar. Well deserved!
  3. Surprisingly dark teaser that gives nothing away. I watched this with coworkers at the pediatrician office I work at and while they were all excited about it (all have young children), the teaser had them so confused. Maybe it’s playing better with those who had lowered/no expectations, because it definitely wasn’t what I expected. Actually surprised it’s getting so much praise. Still think it’ll do great at the box office, but I’m not sure it’ll be better than Frozen, which I loved. Guess I’ll just have to wait and see the rest of the marketing.
  4. Sounds like this year’s The Book of Henry, except most people already suspected it’d be a dud. Doesn’t seem like the so bad, it’s good mess that The Snowman was though.
  5. How weird? Lol. The clip didn’t even sound like she called her a bitch. Thought I heard sweetie in there, but could’ve been anything really. Anyway, glad Regina King and Sandra Oh won! Though I do agree that Jodie Comer was very impressive in Killing Eve. 50% women in future projects?! Go Regina!
  6. The NBC site is down for me. A lot of people must be trying to stream it. Doesn’t seem like it got off to a good start though... 😐
  7. Captain Marvel The Lion King Star Wars: Episode IX Avengers 4 If Beale Streat Could Talk Spider-Man: Far From Home Dumbo Aladdin Us Knifes Out
  8. Surprisingly exceeded my expectations, even with all the hype. I cried 3 times. Went with my friend, teenage sister and 6 year old brother and they all liked it. My brother now thinks he’s Spider-Man lol. Wants to watch it again and he kept asking when he could watch the sequel. Also, there were 3 kids dressed up in various Spider-Man costumes in the theater. Fun, funny and heartwarming movie.
  9. That looks terrifying. Even more than Get Out. But I’ll watch anything Jordan Peele makes so I’m there.
  10. Captain Marvel The Lion King Avengers 4 Star Wars: Episode IV If Beale Streat Could Talk Spider-Man: Far From Home Dumbo Shazam! Us Knifes Out
  11. He was...but he had really nice hair. Lol. Plus Dafoe made up for it, as he did in most of his scenes. He and Kidman were the only two who were believable. I guess I’d put Heard at 3rd, which surprised me because I was not impressed by her performance in JL. The octopus scene was hilarious. And my audience seemed into the movie and clapped at the end.
  12. I liked it overall. Parts were very boring to me, but I liked Mera and I was really moved by the parents’ story. Just took too long to get going and was overstuffed. I didn’t think having Black Manta or the whole back story with his father’s death was necessary, especially if it was just set up for a sequel. The way others talked up the 3rd act, I thought I’d be in for a treat. But I ended up having to close my eyes because the fight scenes were giving me a headache. Just so much going on there. And there were so many fight scenes. It was like a movie crafted by having plot devices that get the characters from one fight scene to the next, and not necessarily to tell a story. Nicole Kidman and Willem Defoe were the MVPs in terms of acting and I didn’t quite buy Arthur and Mera’s chemistry. But yeah, solid fun overall. My audience was no where near full, but started clapping at the end so most seemed to enjoy it. C+/B-
  13. This is something that gets annoying fast. I get comparing movies and pointing out things you liked in one compared to the other. But often, it’s comments about how one movie is the best ever and the other is the worst. Or just random comparisons to another franchise just so it makes the movie they’re a fan of look better in comparison. Critiquing movies is good, but acting like something that doesn’t do everything perfectly is the ‘worst’ or that something that did somethings right is ‘objectively great’ is bizzare.
  14. It’s kinda weird that some think this whole ‘below expectations’ thing is exclusive to DC movies. As though it doesn’t happen for all movies, even the ones that leg out to impressive totals like A Star is Born and IW. Ant-man and the Wasp, WiR2, Deadpool 2, Christopher Robin, etc. were considered disappointing by some as well. This year (and last) has had multiple movies that prompted similar discussions. It’s fine to point out that the numbers aren’t underwhelming, but whining that it’s a DC bias thing is funny. It’s really just a box office expectations vs. reality thing that happens for every movie. MPR is facing it too. This whole Disney/Marvel vs. DC thing is getting so overblown and tiring.
  15. That may be true. Since I started using MoviePass around November last year, I can definitely say I’ve seen way less movies now than I saw last year, now that I don’t have it anymore. And I’m planning to be very selective about which movies I see and don’t plan on doing repeat watches. I saw several award-nominated movies last year, but have seen only a couple this year. I’d say movies like Jumanji and TGS definitely benefited from MoviePass in a way MPR, Bumblebee, Spider-Verse and Aquaman won’t this year.
  16. Fun trailer. Tessa Thompson is so cool. MIB2 was one of the first movies I saw in theaters so hoping this revived the franchise.
  17. If the audience score was dropping a few percentages after several hours or over he course of a few day, I’d probably consider it kinda accurate. But it’s dropped near 20% in a few hours on its opening day with only not many screenings yesterday. That’s what makes me discredit the audience score. RT stopped reviews for Black Panther prior to its opening for similar concerns.
  18. Agree with this. I think she’ll be a great Jasmine. Hopefully this’ll do more for her career than Power Rangers did.
  19. I’m sorta looking forward to this....but Will Smith’s genie looks hilarious. Did not expect that lol. Edit: and shallow of me, but Aladdin is not as attractive as I thought he would be. I blame that outfit.
  20. That’s fair. I guess my point is: have you seen every single film on the list or every film that was submitted? And how do you automatically know that BP is the least deserving of those on the list or those that submitted for the VFX category?
  21. Right...because a win for BP isn’t a win for Marvel. I guess I don’t get this whole inclination people have about needing to bash something they don’t like in order to praise something they do. Need to put something down to make what they like look better in comparison. It’s an online thing I guess. Not saying it’s you personally, but it seems like the same people who say they don’t care about the Oscars/GG are the same ones getting worked up about them. It’s weird.
  22. Marvel has been nominated in the VFX category before. Plus this is a list of contenders, not nominees. It doesn’t even mean a Marvel movie will win. Why is it such a big deal? If it didn’t matter to you, why bother posting it at all and commenting on it?
