  1. Very dry, but compelling. Thought it wouldn’t been better as a stage play.
  2. I disliked it, too. If they wanted that tag, I would have much preferred a scene of them hiring Woodward in 1971 (Beinstein was already with the paper). Overall, I thought it was okay. Kind of dull. It didn’t have the tension of others like All The President’s Men Or Spotlight. Mom mentioned she would have liked more about the New York Times, and the tension / race to publish first. Strep was Strep. Hanks was Hanks. Spielberg was Spielberg. An average showing from them is still better than most other films, yet, still average
  3. An older couple was ahead of me at the kiosk today. He was on his phone, and had an expression I knew all too well: the damn app wasn’t working. I took a chance, asked if it was MoviePass (it was), and said that the theater’s crappy WiFi blocks the signal; you have to turn your WiFi off for it to work. He did. It worked great. The woman than said that they had just gotten their cards, and had done four movies last week and had no intention of slowing down.
  4. I, Tonya January 9, 2017 7:10PM Patriot Cinemas Nickelodeon 95% Full Trailers: Phantom Thread, The Post - $5 Tuesday and Place was PACKED - Mostly Women and older couples - Huge Reactions: laughs at all the right moments, GASPS as the domestic violence and That One Shocking Turn near the end. - Lobby was buzzing Post-Film. Overhead "it was phenomenal", "that was insane," The Disaster Artist January 10, 2017 4:50PM Westbrook Cinemagic 5% (There was about 10 of us) Trailers: Wait -- Downsizing, it was Downsizing. - The people behind me were quoting The Room back to the screen. It was funny and odd. - Lots of laughs.
  5. I completely agree no shared time with Hawkeye. But I completely I disagree about her sharing screentime. This isn’t 2013/2014. ScarJo and Black Widow are not enough. Which is why I really hope this is all a cover for Lady Liberators. to quote Collider “Recently I marched up with a couple of other women who work in Marvel and [asked Kevin] “How about a movie with some female superheroes? Like all of them,” Thompson said Feige replied, “It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder be taped and turn around find every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’ And I said ‘yes.’” That is the “Black Widow” they should make: Widow, Val, Hope, Carol, Gamora, Nebula, Okoye, introduce Jen, have Sif show up late with Starbucks (Cause holy heck did Jaime Alexender a dodge a bullet by not being able to film).
  6. Which I figured. I just love the idea it earned more than the Disaster Artist.
  7. Does anyone know when they release the Fathom Events numbers? I would love to see if The Room made more. LOL.
  8. Won’t believe anything until they announce at SDCC/D23. I would have been more excited in 2013. Now this just kind of reeks that ScarJo’s career isn’t going the way she planned and is looking for some security. That said. Black Widow LADY TEAM UP movie. Sign me up.
  9. Couple stray thoughts: 1. Why would anyone ignore anyone? You’d miss so much Drama. 2. I think someone needs to migrate over to tumblr. They’re salty AF about TLJ. Or, to quote another Disney Classic, maybe: 3. @IronJimbo made a great point I can’t find (sorry) about success v disappointment. The Last Jedi is a box office success, even if people find it creatively disappointing, or think it should make more money. Disney is also more than a Movie Studio. Here we want to focus just on box office. With BIG franchise IPs, it is often more than just the box office run. How much are they making off of merchandise and toys is undoubtably just as important to them as how many tickets they’re selling. 3. The storm majorly effed up my predictions, darn. I underestimated everything, because I thought folks would still be shoveling out. 4. We are off to either Molly’s Game or Three Billboards, but can’t decide. Any perference for those who have seen them? 5. Yes to Hamilton being the best show of the 21st Century.

  12. Ava Duvernay. And Oprah. With Disney's marketing power. What's not to get? I checked off Black Panther and Mary Poppins Returns. Black Panther is going to be MASSIVE. The hype for that movie is very real. It has zero competition until A Wrinkle In Time. The combined talent between Ryan Coogler's creativity, Holy Shit That Cast, and Kevin Feige's gold star producing record screams The Breakout Movie of the Year. The Holidays are crazy stacked between Mary Poppins, Aquaman, and Bumblebee (aka John Cena). Aquaman and Bumblebee are both part of franchises coming off less than stellar outings. I feel they're really going to depend on trailer quality/hype, and have a good probability of just Tonya Harding each other's kneecaps. Which will be good for Mary Poppins Returns to stake on by.
  13. Whether MoviePass lasts or not, I ain't got no crystal ball as they say. If they increased their prices (which I view as inventible), a question is will they do an universal price jump ($9.99 to $14.99 or $19.99) a month; or will they limit usage at $9.99 (i.e. you can only see a movie once, or you can only use your pass one a week), but for $14.99, you have unlimited assess? The other factor -- which we probably will never have hard data on -- is the movie-going habits of MoviePass's user base. How many are causal moviegoers, who see this as a deal, and use the pass once a month? Are there people who view it like a Gym Membership -- go all the time at first than bail a couple months in? How many (like myself) are just milking it? I've seen 14 movies since I got in the mid-September. I'm also on the Black Friday $89.95 annual special. So I'm $74 ahead, and I have "free" movies all 2018. I see a price change hurting "Causals" and "Gym Memberships" more than folks like myself, who even if it's $19.99 a month, it's still well worth it. With 2018 so stacked (March, June, November, and December in particular), I'm really curious to see what films MoviePass will help the most. If the data shows that Kids Movies aren't getting a boost, MoviePass might not help The Incredibles 2 v Jurassic World in their quest for families. Yet! It could help Deadpool 2 and Solo from not cannibalizing each other for the same male demo. And will it help so-so films get more eyeballs? More than once I went and saw something I never would've paid for, but I was bored so why not!

  15. No. Hard no. I cant imagine anyone giving more full realized, capicating, and heartbreaking performance than Margot Robbie this year. She wasn’t just acting and Tonya Harding. She WAS Tonya Harding. Holy Hell, her modern day interviews were EERIE. Way more that intimation, just stunning, stunning work.
  16. Duuuude. My mom and I have this conversation like three times a month, and it is 50/50 on who is being the brat/dick/selfish person by saying “Nope” to going to see a movie. It is just how we roll. ETA: Just found out: Our IMAX theater — which is the only IMAX in the state, and one of the biggest theaters in the state — is temporary closed today. It is so cold up here I suspect it has something with the pipes. I don’t know if they were able to get in showings this morning/afternoon.
  17. My mom and I got into a fight cause I wouldn’t go with her. “Sometimes it isn’t just about you!” (To which I am like, we aren’t going to dinner, we are going to sit in a quiet dark space and not talk. No. Not going. Not even with MoviePass.)
  18. Justice League is definitely going on my list for BOTH the most epic and most soul crushing box office run. What an absolute trip.
  19. I think a lot of people are underestimating the demand for Black Panther. Between the insane Twitter buzz and it being the last film before the Infinity War, anything under 400m feels low.
  20. I am half way through the new batch of episodes. Anyone else watching? USS Callister is a stand out; unmerciful savagery.
  21. I think what I loved most about The Shape of the Water is Del Toro complete commitment to the story and fairy tale. No halves, no holdbacks. She's fucking that fish. And I was like, yes, yes girl, get that beautiful fish boy. I felt like I was watching the most poetic, weird, whimsical, and gorgeous Hellyboy 1950s AU Fan Fiction ever. Everything about it was perfection. And I love how Del Toro's passion for cinema oozes off the screen. Great film. Seating pretty on my Top 5 of the Year (waiting to see if I, Tonya will knock it out). The only thing I didn't like: I wish they had cast an actual gay man to play Giles.
  22. Do Patton Oswalt’s Crossover Pitch! You are more likely to see MCU / Indiana Jones. Joe Johnson confirmed that the line from Captain America: The First Avenger about “digging for trinkets in the desert” is a reference to Raiders if the Lost Ark. So, in theory, Indiana Jones Already exists in the MCU.
