  1. No, it's not really much like Dunkirk (which, goes more into abstract territory). And that final chase (it's more like 3 chases really) that "goes on far too long" and" devoid of tension" is what made people care for the characters (along with the previous chase sequences). Not my problem that you were expecting characters to go on monologues for you to care about them instead of the emphasis on gestures, close-ups, and cutting like with this.
  2. Fury Road is efficient beyond just scenes. It's a film that doesn't have a wasted image or wasted cut. And I don't remember much about Edge of Tomorrow but TDK does have wasted scenes lmao.
  3. Messy art is cool and like something like Tenet is in my top 5 action films of the past 20 years, but Fury Road is just stunningly old-school in it's storytelling, closer to the Westerns of the early half of the 20th century than anything today. It's just what imo sets it apart from anything else recent people compare it with. I don't think this movie will or any of the films the original poster mentioned achieve that.
  4. Nothing bizarre about calling a movie economic and efficient, espescially when so many movies today are filled with bloat. It's just what sets it apart from any of the other modern films people try to compare it with.
  5. Thinking 14*12 = $168 for the 4-day. Also looked at POTC 3 for comps, and did it release on Thursday or is that just previews? BOM and the-numbers saying it released on Thursday but Wikipedia and IMDB list it as Friday release.
  6. None of the films you mentioned are even half as efficient in their storytelling as Fury Road (Casino Royale is probably the closest tho but still a mile away). Hell, studio films in general haven't been that economic in that regard since like Jaws.
  7. In terms of director's he'd never worked with before, I feel Tarantino would've been more fitting like 20 years ago. I do want him to lead whatever next high-concept action film Nolan's working on next (probably his film after Oppenheimer). They feel like such a perfect match.
  8. Now that Cruise has reached new height in his career, I want him to reunite with Spielberg. Cruise starred in two of Spielberg's nastiest films and I really want another one. Or a Cameron Crowe reunion would be cool too.
  9. I watched Oblivion last night. Was a pretty fun but kinda forgettable time. Still, nobody else has the same kinda vibes Cruise brings into all his performances.
  10. Does anyone else keep getting these stupid Johnny Depp Amber Heard videos recommended on youtube (and on other social media too)? Feels like there's some multi-million ad campaign going on for this shit,
  11. Think this is pretty easily going over $400 mil now. With Dr Strange probably finishing lower than most expected, still think this is winning summer DOM.
  12. Pretty sure there was a version of the trailer in 1.90:1 going around on the internet before the trailer got officially released. Anyone still have it? Not a fan of widescreen for this (probably because I've only ever seen the first one in flat aspect ratio).
  13. I throught Quartich was Jake this whole time and thought that the humans now working with the Na'vi or something.
  14. And that bit worked as a dig towards Marvel's and Disney's (bad) attempts at representation if anything.
  15. Yeah, Games at Berkeley is still around. There's also this cafe called Victory Point where they sell packs and do drafts every Tuesday and Friday.
  16. Lmaooo, and you went to Stanford? I guess I now understand why we don't often see eye to eye.
  17. My roommate is really into mtg and he's been trying to teach me the game lol. Haven't had the time to properly get into it but seems pretty fun (got really into Gwent over the pandemic and this seems more complex). Something I'm gonna try to get into during the summer.
