The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread (December 2021 - July 2023)
Borobudur replied to Cap's topic in Numbers and Data
Do we know how long will A2 got to keep its IMAX screen? The major competition to A2 seem to be on week 9 when it face Antman 3 but I know on and off IMAX will give some special treatment run to a lot of niche movie too. -
So what we know about A2 world tour premiere? I know London and Tokyo has one each, but any other places?

-42% sunday drop for VN is a bit harsh isn't it? Anyway, it is saddening to see we are cheering $13.3m as a win for such mid-scale action comedy and few years ago VN probably doing >100m. With projected $35m-$40m finish total, VN actually isn't making far better than Nobody in early 2021 when thing were way less friendly for cinemagoing. -
Actually the number of cinema allowed for operation currently at 5841, is still way below compared to a month ago (~7600), and even way below compared to when JWD opened (>10,000)。 The major pro-Hollywood product population hub like Beijing and Shandong province, their cinema still in lockdown state. Beijing only have 10% of the cinema opened right now.

Hope VN can remain as a great counter-programming when A2 and PIB got most of the attention throughout holiday season. -

Even on Dec 18, the final match will take place on 11pm locally, where most of the Asia country and Australia would have already finish most of their movie business hour. Euro will be the hardest hit since the match will be within their prime hour is. -
Rise to 45% the opening rate, but I would say the reopening still vulnerable because the Covid-guidance still have medium risk region to have their cinema closed. So a little shift in curve can force the cinema to go on close again theoretically. And the major Hollywood hub Beijing metro area still pretty much all closed and I doubt the case the coming down fast enough.

I think aside from TGM, none of the blockbuster since pandemic have done this level of world tour premiere, I wish A2 can have more world tour premiere, covering different country like India.

As good as it sound, I am actually hoping the reopening can come at least 1 week later since the number of cases begin to drop. I am worry the huge spike in number of cases afterward will scare people off from cinema and hurt A2 again. People have to remember, to them, people in China still fear of Covid-19 like many in 2020, so the huge wave of infection will certainly inevitable bad for cinemagoing.
