  1. Ignoring that WBD has done much worse than it's media peers since it was formed in April, they also missed on the top/bottom line as well, both down 8% year on year (excluding foreign exchange) source (the first 3 bullet points after the quote from DZ): https://s201.q4cdn.com/336605034/files/doc_financials/2022/q3/WBD-3Q22-Earnings-Release-Final-11.3.22.pdf Advertising and affiliate fees from cable are starting to really falter which is something that Zaslav was talking up as a way to pay down debt, streaming is not making up for lost revenue in those segments, theatrical is still challenged and the new heads of Warner and DC will take time to green light and release new films (probably 2-3 years) so are reliant on films made by the old regime. The one thing they are talking up is a FAST (free ad supported) streaming service similar to Pluto or Tubi, that may help them some but likely not enough to offset the declines in their biggest segments.
  2. Pathaan looks awesome, I'm excited for it looks like a Mission Impossible knockoff but in a good way, will make sure to watch it for sure. If the film is as good as the trailer might have a film to challenge Dangal as my favourite Indian film. Also are there any other Bollywood (or Indian films in general) that are like Pathaan, that are worth checking out?
  3. It's a little higher at 2.8m but yeah still a miss also only 500k US additions which seems very very low.
  4. Best episode in a few weeks (still not as good as the MI style steal the pay roll arc), without going into spoilers that ending was more of what I wanted to see from this show.
  5. I have finished all the episodes now and wow the first episode was the weakest of the bunch, this was fantastic and I would love more with other characters. Also love how much they fleshed out missing parts of the timeline around TPM and Rebels.
  6. Only watched the first episode so far (going to take my time with it) but I loved it! This is more of what I want from Star Wars, I'm happy for everyone loving Andor* but I'm much more excited for the next 5 episodes of this Baby Ahsoka is so adorable and *By the way I like Andor before anyone tries to go after me, might be my least favourite Star Wars show so far from Disney+ though.
  7. Like the split leadership with Gunn overseeing the creative output, hopefully good things come of this.
  8. I'm also going to wait and hope I don't get spoiled on anything, but usually these happen maybe a day early ... for it to happen this early from a European partner is pretty wild and a massive fuck up for whoever slipped up.
  9. They have the Guardians Holiday Special for December (presumably) I personally would hold it back until early February if possible to line up with a Black History Month release.

  11. It will certainly be up there, don't know if will match TFA (that was wild) but then again I'm a big ol Star Wars nerd so maybe I'm biased. Then again to counter myself when they do put the original Avatar back up on Disney+ in 4K, if done correctly, that will be a nice marketing push (for lack of a better term) that they didn't have back in 2015.
  12. Have not seen Black Adam but your first place and last place are my top 2 lol, don't know what that will mean for my enjoyment of Black Adam. As for the rest I thought MoM was fine, Superpets was cute and funnier than I thought I would be, couldn't make it through Morbius.
  13. 6:55 "I'm really Excited for the new Avatar, that's the one I'm tuned into, the way of water that's my lifestyle right there, that's exciting" Disney/20th/Lightstorm need to get Play as a spokesperson lol.
  14. Delta variant of COVID was really bad in Europe (and possibly Asia) around the time of the Venom 2 release if I remember correctly. edit: also strong competition from No Time to Die across Europe.
  15. Moonfall is still the biggest bomb! Less than $60m on a ~$140m budget.
  16. For ~70% of the Disney+ subscriber base (Canada, APAC, Europe and Africa) that is kind of already the case, all the Disney produced Hulu originals and most froth library content is on Disney+ as Hulu doesn't exist outside of the US and Japan (Japan is just the brand name Hulu though and not affiliated with Disney anymore)
  17. With the way Warner counted HBO Max subs (they include HBO subs from cable) HBO Max and Disney+ were at similar subscriber counts domestically (US and Canada) WBD now reports combined subs for HBO Max and Discovery+ so impossible to know exact sub count for HBO Max currently However one of the big problems for HBO Max is they haven't launched in markets like Canada, Australia, UK, France, Germany, India, Korea, Japan etc. which are all huge streaming markets and all markets that Disney+ does well in, Disney+ also has a much broader variety in those markets with a lot of adult skewing content like Dopesick, Only Murders, The Kardashians, Prey etc. as well as local/regional originals. The lack of international expansion was always going to limit HBO Max and in the markets they are internationally they have cut down or completely stopped in some cases funding local/regional originals, that is what I believe has truely stopped them from getting to 100m+ subs and competing with the likes of Disney, Amazon and Netflix as a big global player.

  19. "Fandango says it’s the latest step to “modernize” Rotten Tomatoes, ever since NBCUniversal’s Fandango acquired the reviews-aggregation site in 2016 from Warner Bros., which retains a 25% stake in Rotten Tomatoes." source: https://variety.com/2019/digital/news/rotten-tomatoes-audience-scores-verified-fandango-ticket-buyers-1203224424/
  20. This is the main thing, I enjoyed Jungle Cruise (same Director and Star) even though it got middling reviews. I'm hopeful I will like Black Adam when I get around to watching it in hopefully a couple of weeks as well. I've seen enough movies that have awesome reviews that I've hated and a bunch with low reviews that I've loved to know that it dissent inform my decision on what to watch. Also I think DC doesn't see a huge impact from critical response with movies like 2016 Suicide Squad making a bunch of money even with poor reviews, so don't know why everyone seems to be...
  21. That would most likely be outdated there was a significant jump in streaming uses by all age groups from May 2021 to May 2022: Here is a year end breakdown for subscription video (Online Subscription) year end 2021 in the THEME report by MPAA that also shows Whites under index: source: https://www.mpa-apac.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/MPA-2021-THEME-Report-FINAL.pdf In terms of breaking down the original article I posted, there was another statistic of traditional TV viewership: Using the statistics from both graphs above and converting Hours into minutes: US total population is (1454/56) x 34.8 = 903.557143 Hispanic population is (925/43.1) x 43.6 = 935.730858 Historically the Black population has over indexed in television viewership, although take it with a massive grain of salt because this data is outdated: source: https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2020/multicultural-consumers-are-streaming-content-more-than-ever-as-social-distancing-continues/ But Live TV+Shifted TV (Cable+Broadcast) was 5.5-6 hours for Black audiences in 2018/2019 vs. roughly 4 hours for White audiences if that split stayed similar over these last few years would mean Black audiences stream more minutes per month also. Asian audiences are the one who are probably below White audiences in streaming viewership but they are also the audiences most hesitant to return to cinemas (so that would imply streaming usage and theatrical attendance correlate or at worst are a non-impact): source: https://www.mpa-apac.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/MPA-2021-THEME-Report-FINAL.pdf Hopefully that will change though and titles like Raya and the Last Dragon, Shang-Chi and Turning Red that seem to actively target Asian-American (mainly East and SouthEast) seems to be working: Source: https://www.nielsen.com/insights/2022/for-aanhpi-audiences-streaming-brings-families-together/ Sorry for the wall of links, graphs and texts but I think it safe to say in the last year+ with titles like Squid Game, Encanto, Ms. Marvel, The Harder They Fall, Reservation Dogs plus many many more I'm likely forgetting that demographics have probably gotten more diverse.
  22. I think minorities over index in both theatrical and home viewership, I was more taking exception with the original post by @M37 that stated White people are by far the largest share of streaming subscriptions and thus that is the reason they are the weakest movie going demographic when that isn't is the case and that statistics don't back that up.
