  1. The same reason why BvS is not as big a hit as many would expect because the action is darker, more intense & frightening than your typical lighthearted superhero movie slick Spider-Man or Tony & the gang.
  2. TJB did $7M. Alice 1 did $9M. Can the boy beat the princess domestically?
  3. There is another duel coming up: Robin Hood Extended Universe from Disney & Sony called "Hood" Warner also has a competing project. Yes, after Errol Flynn, Kevin Costner & Russell Crowe versions, they are doing yet another one!
  4. They don't want Midnight Special to become a - well, it was never meant to be a competition - distraction for BvS. I heard a lot of critics loved it.
  5. Jungle Book has wider demographics catch than girl-centric titles like Cinderella, Oz & Maleficent. Alice 1's larger OW can only be explained by Johnny Depp's presence which may bring in older teens and also the novelty of 3D back then. Action, animal attacks, visual fx - wider demo.
  6. But you have to also consider the size of the market. Argentina may have the worst exchange rate for American studios but its market is considerably smaller than EU& UK for example. EU rate did get worse but it is not dramatic. Japan can be a substantial market but SH rarely gets much attendance unless it is Avengers which hey consider as a Disney movie.( And you know Japan would watch anything as long as it is Disney. ). Russia, Mexico & Brazil together are a sizable market so the decline in rate could significantly impact BO performance but in the overall scheme of things? You have to consider China & the combined South East Asian markets (Malaysia,Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, a country of 300 million people, Thailand, and Philippines). Avengers Ultron did a combined of (Philippines $14M, Malaysia $13M, Singapore $10M, Thailand $8M, Vietnam $5M, no reports from Indonesia, est $10M) $60M there.
  7. Jungle Book multiplier off a high $103M OW If it behaves like Alice 1: 2.87 -> $296M DOM If behaves like Maleficent : 3.47 -> $358M DOM Average : $327M DOM final, about right? For those who thinks this has longer legs than Maleficent should be aware that Disney is going to need those IMAX/LPF screens for Captain's War
  8. It's a very badly directed but the movie never got the scorn of humanity like BvS. I am not a big defender of BvS: The only thing I like about BvS is the trailer. And Snyder is great visuals but kinda hopeless in a big massive commercial machinery they are to build to fight MCU. Still, the amount of hate & ridicule is worse than reality TV. Just a series of god-awful smear campaign, scorched earth policy of the highest order. It almost feels like it's organized. With the hype building on Suicide Squad & a solo Batman movie, I guess Warner seems to have a knack/preference for the edgier, darker, more violent, ethically challenged superheroes/villains rather than "good ole boy" superheroes like Superman or Green Lantern.
  9. We live in a very bizarre time when a movie that made $800M WW is considered an abomination of outsized proportions. TASM2 cost $250M and it barely did $700M WW and nobody made a pip.
  10. Like I said : the amount of bile, hate & "lol" just come fast & furious like as if there is a net bot behind it all. It's frightening how a bunch of people dedicated to a systematic destruction of something as innocuous as a superhero movie can spread "hate" like an infectious disease.
  11. I think 2016 could be a record year for $200M grossers Record holders in 2013 & 2014 with 13 $200M grossers. Rogue One Finding Dory CA:CW Deapool Jungle Book Zootopia Secret Life of Pets BvS Suicide Squad Fantastic Beasts ID Resurgence X-Men Apocalypse Jason Bourne Moana Passengers
