I don't understand how Disney animation cost so damn much....?? The cast is in the voice box, no location shooting, everything is done inside a computer, how can it cost $150-$175M? Mad Max Fury Road costing close to $200M is understandable: delayed production, location is in the middle of nowhere, practical stunts, and expensive looking CGI. Minions & Lego price tags are more reasonable. -

Waitaminute, I thought Clover is gonna do closer to 30. While this is still a very good showing, I expect a little more after that RT score & general enthusiastic response. Maybe it will not behave like a typical Final Girl movie? 2nd weekend drop may be in the 40% range? I wish.

Judging from the performances in the trailers alone, you can tell 10CL is better acted movie than the shakey cam nightmare of Cloverfield which is more of a triumph of concept & marketing hype than anything else.

Zootopia looks like a stronger contender here. It is fresher, better storyline. Dreamwork's should have kept the December date and roll out internationally within a week, not spread out to a time frame when Zootopia kills its chance. Then again the international arrangements may be complex & tough to close. -
Variety hints at the tone of the film especially the 3rd act: "...rarely has “out of the frying pan and into the fire” felt more apt as a description.."

KFP3 will clean up in China, smart to release 1 week before Chinese New Year. Dreamwork's execs know Chinese audience will probably choose their homegrown titles (Monkey King 2) over foreign ones. But maybe KFP3 is the better entertainment and probably could nicely challenge Monkey King 2 for box office dominance. If that is the case, Dreamworks probably stay out of the New Year slot out of respect. -

F4 just had a string of bad lucks. C'mon seriously there are far worse movies than F4 and those made more than F4. F4 is no worse than GI Joe Retaliation, Ghost Rider, 300 Rise of Empire, and countless other atrocities. -
The monster in Cloverfield is one ugly #$%^@@#$$#@. Why would you want to see it on the big screen again? Xenomorph, Godzilla, The Predator, King Kong are monsters but they are products of good design. Anyway, Cloverfield is 2/3 a love story and the movie can still work without a single shot of the monster.

The minimum is $950M. Unless post-New Year grosses are utterly, utterly super dismal, TFA should hit $1B domestic, and beyond. Also of note, last weekend 3rd weekend gross is a bit short of expectations. Everybody was expecting $90M+ It is still spectacular @$88M but the 40% drop is a concern for those who are absolutely sure this will do $1.1B to $1.2B dom.
