  1. Buffy - The Body The most mind-blowing, devastating episode of TV I know. Angel - Not Fade Away My favourite finale by far. Exciting, tear-jerking, epic. Seinfeld - The Junior Mint The funniest TV episode I've ever seen. I used to prefer The Contest, but this stands up to repeat viewing better. Jerry's plot: he's dating a woman but can't remember her name. This is the funniest sitcom plot bar none. Six Feet Under - Everyone's Waiting Strong episode overall, but those last six minutes. If you've seen that montage, set to Sia's Breathe Me, you'll know what I mean. Battlestar Galactica - Daybreak I know a lot of people hated the BSG finale, but I loved it. The last scenes between The Old Man and Madame President can make me well up just thinking about them. Plus: All Along The Watchtower. Veronica Mars - Pilot Best pilot episode I've ever seen. Loaded with so much exposition you'd think it would be impossible to make work, but it's moving, funny and charming. The Wire - Mission Accomplished Picking just one Wire episode is borderline impossible. It's like picking a favourite page from a novel. Mad Men - Far Away Places Roger Sterling is on acid. Perfect. Firefly - Serenity The brilliant pilot that hinted at a darker, more adult show than Fox could evidently live with. Unfortunately the vastly inferior Train Job ended up subbing as the pilot when it went to air. Arrested Development - Let 'em Eat Cake "He's thinking about bees again."
  2. Favourite: Iron ManLeast Favourite: Spider-Man 3
  3. Yeah, this. Start a website and create great content. Look at Film Crit Hulk's site: http://filmcrithulk.wordpress.com - this is the level of writing and the knowledge of movies you'll need. Based on this free blog - hosted on Wordpress - Hulk has gone on to work for Badass Digest and The New Yorker. So it can be done. But you need to be great.
  4. You want to know why you can't tolerate dissenting opinions about this movie? It's that nagging feeling in the back of your mind that maybe all those people hating on it are right. Here's the bad news: they are.
  5. Can't we just agree that they both had supermodel legs, and move on?
  6. I wouldn't mind if Prometheus won, but my money would be on The Hobbit.
  7. Yeah, the drop in quality between his early movies and later ones is incredible.
  8. When I was a kid I loved it. But now I understand how great Mel Brooks was in his prime (The Producers, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles - 3 of the funniest movies ever) Spaceballs becomes a pretty frustrating movie to watch.
  9. Yeah, gotta agree with this. Galaxy Quest was a decent movie.
  10. Jaws - the best modern blockbuster. Also maybe the best third act of all time.Fight Club - Hilarious and kinetic. I was worried it might have aged badly, but nope, still magnificent. The Dark Knight Rises - good first hour, then it becomes a bit of a mess. Nolan still struggles shooting action.Spider-Man 2 - even better than I remembered. Great movie.Fantastic Mr Fox - I love Wes Anderson. Laugh out loud funny, touching, quirkier than a bag of racoons.
  11. That does sound awful. Another reason to be glad I stopped watching Friends after the second season. Here's another personal favourite:
  12. I can't speak for Jack, but I meant abortion. Abbertion isn't even a word.
  13. 1) Before Sunset2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind3) Spider-Man 24) The Incredibles5) HellboyGuilty pleasure: The Life Aquatic
  14. I take your point, and the leap in quality between 1 and 2 is gigantic, but I still wouldn't call TMP a bad movie. It's insanely edited - but had it been the 90 minute movie it should have been, it would be fine. I really like some of the Spock stuff... but they really made a weird decision trying to mimic the pacing of 2001.Wrath of Khan though. Great movie.
  15. Nah man, you're entitled to your (wrong) opinion.
  16. IMO, the whole trilogy is an abortion. If I had to rank them in order:TPMROTSAOTC
  17. I actually prefer TPM to ROTS. Liam Neeson manages to give something resembling a performance, the fact it's not all shot against blue screen but real location shooting, and some of the Tatooine stuff reminds me of the old trilogy. It still sucks of course.
  18. Yuck. The only good thing about Sith is the Red Letter Media dissection of it.I know Spider-Man (2002) isn't exactly a bad movie, but it's pretty mediocre - and then Spider-Man 2 is totally, totally brilliant.
  19. It really is.It also turns 70 this year. Hard to imagine any 2012 movies still being lauded in 70 years time like this movie is.
  20. I always switch between Casablanca and Godfather Part 2 as my favourite film ever (although The Big Lebowski gets a mention when I'm stoned). But in the end Casablanca is just more fun, so comes out on top.
  21. People often say "no movie is perfect". I have to assume those people have never seen Casablanca. A
  22. I think the thing 14 years ago that beat it was England vs Argentina in the World Cup.
  23. When I was a kid definitely Ferris, now probably Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
