  1. 8½. It looks great, which won me over first time I saw it. Second time it just seemed self-indulgent and vacuous.
  2. Based on this, what would you guess the total in Japan will end up being?
  3. Poor Ridley.Maybe I'll watch True Romance this afternoon. I always loved that movie.
  4. Watching this at the cinema I loved it and assumed it would have fantastic repeatability. So when the DVD came out I watched it right away expecting to love it, and was mostly just bored by it. Soon after I moved house and lost the DVD somehow.... and didn't particularly care.
  5. I enjoyed this much more than I was expecting to. It was like Cabin in the Woods directed by someone obsessed with BSG - which is no bad thing in my book.Grade: B
  6. I really like season 2 of Dollhouse, but otherwise I agree 100%.
  7. As someone who prefers Dr Horrible to TA I couldn't agree more.If you loved the humour and writing of TA I'd recommend you check out Dr Horrible. It's fantastic.
  8. Spielberg's best movie is the best blockbuster ever made, and easily one of the best movies ever made.Grade: A.
  9. At best this'll be like Let Me In - well made but completely pointless, and lacking the lightning in a bottle of the original.
  10. VertigoTaxi DriverChinatownThe Night of the Hunter
  11. The worst of the three but still excellent.Grade: B+
  12. The best of the trilogy.Greengrass might be partly responsible for the shaky cam fad, but he does it brilliantly... so much better than anyone else. Blaming him for copyists like Len Wiseman is like blaming Spielberg for ALF.Ultimatum also has a perfect ending, and a perfect last shot. I have no intention of ever ruining it with TBL, so it'll stay the end.Grade: A
  13. You're being overly harsh. $1b is still a big landmark regardless of James Cameron.
  14. LOTR definitely, with SW 4-6 and Toy Story vying for second place.
  15. I liked the one where Kristen Stewart forgot about the annoying EMO boyfriend and went to work in a theme park. Twilight: Adventureland I think it was called.
  16. Why is she "essential"? I can see why comic book fans like her because of her origin in the comics, but within the movie itself why is she essential? In other words, if she was cut out and Bane made the sole villain how would the movie be hurt? What about this: Take her out of the movie altogether; have Bane be the brains as well as brawn behind the scheme. Give Talia's scenes to Catwoman, whose relationship with Bruce can be fully fleshed out, so the ending feels earned.Suddenly you have a better movie.
  17. Good to see Drive getting so much love. I though it was easily the film of the year. The rest of the top 10: 50/50 Hugo Midnight in Paris Attack The Block The Muppets X-Men First Class Senna Moneyball American: The Bill Hicks Story
  18. 100% this.Choosing Clash of the Titans or Sucker Punch as your pick only means you haven't yet watched The Room. But you need to... really badly.
