1. 300 - Its Friday estimates completely took me by suprise, no-one expected it.2. Spider-man - with 3d it will have probably earned over 175 mil today and it had such a small theatre count compared to blockbusters nowadays.3. The avengers - simply because its a mammoth and not only did it beat the OW record, it did it admission wise aswell.4. THG - it managed to sell more tickets than than the Potter finale lol, what more needs to be said.5. Borat - it's PTA was pretty damn impressive for the sort of film it is.

The avengers has one sole purpose, to entertain in which it easily succeeds. Potter tries to be emotionally engaging in which it fails, unless your very simple minded, which most 14 year old girls are.

Oh please, the Harry potter franchise has been on a downward trend admission wise since the first film. DH2 only hit 1.3b because of expanding markets and 3D. The avengers won't be forgotten just like Spider-man. TA is the first of its kind and your wrong, it will sell more tickets than TDK, that's practically locked. The Harry potter box office success is undeserved, it's just riding of the success of the books and Baumer is right, millions think it. With the amount of books potter has sold you'd expect the films to have higher grosses, but obviously there are a lot of people out there that also think the films suck compared to the books. Yes Harry potter is the most successful film franchise, but that's simply because the story doesn't fucking end, it takes 8 films to kill voldemort which lets face it, after such a build up, his death was underwhelming. In terms of popularity, LOTR, pirates and soon to be The Avengers and avatar series are more popular. Just wait till Decemeber and witness a LOTR spinoff slaughter the great Harry Potter finale.

When I was young independence day was my favourite film and Armageddon was 2nd. Now I can see how stupid these movies were but at the end of the day it's a film, films are here to entertain. I had a lot more fun watching these shitty movies than I did watching such films as The Artist or The Black Swan..

The Avengers for me Ive never been a Potter fan however ive seen the majority of them, including DH2 of course. i find the acting by Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe to be embarrisingly bad at times in it. I can appreciate the film has a good story, wait i cant, im sorry but ive just never managed to get into this franchise. It seems too childish for me and the special effects and action looks suprisingly cheap for a franchise thats earned billions. I dont know if the film-makers decided to jew out on the budget or maybe they just need to hire a better VFX company. The Avengers is over-rated, out of all the marvel movies, Iron Man remains my favourite. However The Avengers is everything it needed to be, its funny, has spectacular action and feels like a true summer blockbuster. Sure the story could have been better but when your head is dipped deep in popcorn you tend not to care so much. Now just because i (and the majority of the world) think The Avengers is better than DH2 it doesnt mean it is, its all opinions.

Film was superb

If nikki is right then tht number is disappointing however let's face it, people on these forums have been sucked into the hype (me included) and lets face it, it will still earn 400m+ which is still a much better finish than anyone was expecting.
