  1. One of the few times I feel like the reimagining actually streamlined and made the original source material better.I don't say that lightly as a F13 fan or about reimagining, reboots or remakes.Don't get me started on the Rob Zombie Halloween.
  2. It's a Bill Murray classic. it's a comedy classic. I love this film. AAA+++ On a side note I'm watching Deadwood for the first time and in season 2 Ned Ryerson, whoever the actor is, has a role for a few episodes. He's all scruffy in a top hat with glasses and it took me about 30 seconds to finally have my AhHa moment.
  3. GR2 hasn't dropped Big Time....yet. It will this weekend. It actually had one of the better Tuesday drops. For today was lumped in within 1% of Vow and Journey2. It's been #4 the whole time. Dropping BIG TIME means it would've had 55% drop today and be #7. Slow the roll, it'll come it's just not time yet. When it does finally drop hard, Friday, I'll stop correcting the early knee jerk reactions.
  4. Saw some people's reviews at a few places that went to a free screener and they said Act of Valor as a movie isn't very good. I'm going anyway but if that type reaction is common $20m may not happen.
  5. Well, it is a demon spirit afterall, of course he's dead. Seriously though IMDB? Those boards are boring, attention span of a slug. The thread here has activity as well as on comic message boards. I wouldn't call it forgotten but in all objectivity it's audience was small to begin with. So acting like it's odd you don't see a huge swell of activity is a bit disingenuous.
  6. WTF are you talking about with Ghost Rider? It didn't drop any more/less than Vow or Journey 2, all at 30% and Safe House was 26%.It's drop was on par with the others. No reason to single it out at all at this point regarding drops.
  7. I'm quite happy with that GR2 number. Was prepared for worse actually. It wasn't even close to being the worst of the drops for Tuesday daily figures.
  8. My grade: B 350 seater auditorium, about 50+ attending in 2-D opening night. So what are some things in this film one might like, I'll share mine: [*]I liked how they explained why the devil looks different. Ciran Hands vs Peter Fonda. [*]I liked the nods to acknowledging his stunt rider days and I don't mean the storyboards. The bonding moments with Danny on the highway doing bike stunts. [*]Incorporating the Zarathos element inherent with the comic version. And that explanation sequence between Blaze and Moreau was nicely done. [*]The use of Negative Space and filming in a Negative manner worked well in several scenes. Such as the purging of the Rider scene and "Decay vision". [*]Glad the "pissing scene" was only an in-joke visual for Johnny and Danny and not an actual moment in the film. [*]Tying into the first film again, how the Rider fears and/or is powerless in the light AND how events in the film change that. [*]How we see the Rider as a hero, controlled by Blaze in that final sequence. Not just a force of nature. So, in fairness what could've been better, my thoughts on that: [*]I know they spent less money but I missed the full on Penance Stare. It's done but without the f/x, more implied then *poof* dead bad guy. [*]The transitions between major set pieces could've been more fluid. A few too many Hard Cuts. [*]Nadya, Danny's mom, is suddenly a good shot with a military grade sniper rifle from 500yrds? Some 30 second bs explanation earlier in the film might've sold this better. The best backstory we get is she a bit of a gypsy. [*]Personally I would've liked more dialogue from the Rider. Like the Hulk films I feel they've missed this twice now. Neither character is that silent in their own book. The few location cinematography shots we got were great. Liked seeing the Monks chiseled out monastic hideout. The castle was very nice. The amphitheater ruins for the ritual were cool. Nice cameos by Anthony Stewart Head(Giles of BtVS) and Christopher Lambert. Idris Elba did a very servicable job as well. Not Heimdell awesome but still a respectable performance. Cage was a much, much better Johnny Blaze this time imo. Some nice humor although I can see where for some a few moments might be over the top(Jerry Springer's 1/2 second cameo perhaps). The twinkie scene got several laughs at my viewing. It's a fun movie, cut loose and enjoy the film. Oscar bait it's not but in all objectiveness there are worse films, worse comic films out there than this. Don't allow yourself to get caught up in the seemingly current "Hip to bash Cage and/or Ghost Rider" bandwagon this month. You'll miss a fun time at the theater and be forced to sit through The Vow.
  9. Nice to meet you, been around awhile. The 7:15 show and I will get back to you at some point.
  10. ^^^Remember how Journey 2 looked that way on Friday?I swear this board has members with short memory spans.
  11. I'm not saying, or ever said, GR2 is going to explode but it is a night film. A film you see with your friends AFTER work, AFTER some beers. No shocker it's EARLY matinees from a few dozen shows seems weak. It's similar to taking Exit Polling data in select markets during the Presidential Election and saying at 11am, with 8hrs of available voting still to be done, that JOHN KERRY WINS!!!I take this 'early trend' information with the whole shaker of salt.
  12. LOL, Big Drops...isn't that stating the obvious for what was an abnormal Tuesday.
  13. Underworld, as noted, has a great WW total. PLUS, it's going into the long 4-day weekend with a $60m total. It's very likely going to see $70m domestic(it's budget).
  14. I also like that UA moved up another slot on the dailies today, from #9 yesterday to #8 today.A fifth film is all but assured and Kate did say she'd be up for it in an inerview I saw.
  15. Sweet!!!!It's going to be right at $60m going into the long 4-day weekend.
  16. Even $500K for UA would be a nice bump. I was just being greedy!!
  17. Awaiting Underworld, could it have done $1m if Chronicle did?
  18. So is the expectation then that since this is Valentines Day that other films who might normally see a 1-5% bump for Discount Tuesdays can forget about it BECAUSE any Romeo worth is salt will cave and go to Vow or at least This Means War? So Safe House, Woman in Black, SW:TPM 3-D, Journey 2, The Grey etc, basically anything but Vow or TMW will decrease most likely? Seems like what I'm reading.
  19. Hold the phone, no one here that I've seen is saying GR2 is doing $150m. Just that based on the year so far where few, if any, felt The Devil Inside, Underworld Awakening(in it's 4th film) or Safe House doing as well as they've done would happen they did. And objectively looking at Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance has plenty in common with TDI & UA so check your feelings and go with the logic trend of numbers for now.
  20. Remember all our "analysts" here were taken by surprise on Safe House so saying Ghost Rider 2 can't/won't open above $25m(for 4-days) by the same people has to be taken with a grain of salt. Given the very recent performances of late.
  21. Ever since the estimates were coming in on Saturday, for these films, it's made me think that should the trend continue the Ghost Rider 2 haters are going to be furious!!!
  22. ^^^Maybe weekend after this upcoming one.Ghost Rider is likely to have a good enough 4-Day weekend. Much to the chagrin of many, especially the haters.
  23. Star Wars isn't "like" other franchises. Doing "what was achieved of others" is not even the low bar. Star Wars is it's own beast with it's own set of standards. Performing "like the others" is not an achievement.
  24. LOL at The Phantom Menace!! That movie was a chore to sit through regularly, now way do I pay extra for 3-D. Seems others agree. Glad to see Underworld Awakening pop back in at the #10 slot on Saturday and force a weekend revision that it might hold that slot. I called that in the Friday thread. Hoping it holds.
  25. So the lowest estimated film at #10 has $2.2m if I read that right in the OP. Underworld Awakening just drops out of the Top 10? I know it had a 900 theater loss and all but it was Top 5 for three weeks and it just totally drops off? I was thinking it would finish at worst in the 10th slot at best 9. I await the finals, I'm thinking UA shows back up at #10. Good for the 3 $30m openers provided that all holds as well.
