  1. Not sure what the rules are anymore so I’ll just say I’m really sad this bombed and I hope marvel’s future endeavours, in fact all future superhero films, are much more successful and that the genre continues to dominate the film landscape for decades to come
  2. Hey, I’m happy for cap 4 to be theatrical. Cinematic superhero flops are more interesting than superhero streaming flops
  3. They might as well release Cap 4 theatrically but with that much reshooting it’s basically guaranteed to be a flop, right? I did ask a while back and never got an answer: what is supposed to be the hook of the movie? It obviously isn’t the tv show. Hulk? Harrison Ford?
  4. Oh yeah, this still exists. I guess at least they won’t be able to copy an existing movie frame for frame this time.
  5. hey, I may have zero business acumen but at least I didn’t spend hundreds of millions making the marvels 😛
  6. I saw bits of the first while channel hopping. No idea why people said its visuals were ‘amazing’, it was the same green screen uncanny valley bullshit that plagues 90% of these movies’ environments. Yes it’s underwater so in this case they had no choice, but that doesn’t mean it looked good.
  7. Is that normal practice? Sincere question since I don’t follow weekend threads much. Either way I do think the febrile anticipation of this movie’s performance has been greatly exaggerated - the atmosphere is resigned acceptance at this point.
  8. Lol, why is the weekend thread locked? Have I missed some multiverse box office forum where comments on this movie have been massive flame wars rather than this one’s calm acknowledgement of an incoming flop?
  9. I know I’m predisposed to think most marvel movies look shit but thunderbolts seems like exactly the kind of project they no longer have the luxury of tossing out there and relying on an ok profit. It looks like the definition of skippable.
  10. the day he gives an MCU movie a negative review the space-time continuum will collapse. (that said I do follow him on Twitter and he’s often right about internet fanboy culture)
  11. I think the reception proves the release date of reviews wouldn’t have mattered either way. If anything Disney’s caginess made people think they’d be much worse, so you could say it was smart
  12. It’s actually pretty tame on this thread, people have learnt their lesson over the years. A decade ago it was batshit. Dozens of pages of flame wars. good times
  13. I don’t think the ‘will it/won’t it be fresh’ question will matter much when the ow numbers come in, tbh
  14. RTs extremely low barrier to entry for YouTube critics does make a mockery of its setup. on the other hand, aggregate review sites make a mockery of serious film criticism. so I’m torn.
  15. The ‘epic’ music doesn’t work. You didn’t earn that music, naughty trailer.
  16. “a ton of fun and I can’t wait to see it again!” ……………. 7/10 yup, we’re in for one of those RT runs.
  17. Marvel didn’t learn their lesson from the last ant man if that’s true. Shamelessly shoddy cgi is now a Talking Point.
  18. It’s marvel, whatever else you say about them they’re too slick to allow unmitigated critical disasters. Even half the critics who saw eternals liked it enough.
  19. So… is it just generally accepted now that marvel will throw in the towel and get the old gang back together for an obscene amount of money? I see the short-term logic of course but once they’ve buggered off after a couple of movies will the problem have gone away? Do you really want a Star Wars situation where a supposedly expansive universe is trapped in the orbit of a handful of characters?
  20. see, I think that premise can work if A) the hero they’re fangirling is actually beloved by the audience and B ) that’s the razor sharp focus of the movie. In this there are 3 leads. Anytime I see a promo I think ‘why is the one who isn’t Cap Marvel and Miss Marvel even there?’
  21. rockstar has said time and again they’ve no interest in a movie. GTA multiplayer alone makes them more money than a small country’s GDP
  22. I enjoyed this movie more than the last two but this series has always been so much better on paper than in reality. The problem, I think, is that dialogue scenes basically suck but the films seems to think they’re iconic. The movies also turn to shit when cgi worms its way in and you might as well be watching a cartoon. And that happens a lot.
  23. Still a shame that we knew so far in advance it was going to underperform. Would have been so much better with a modicum of surprise
