Maverikk Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 His role as James Bond made my #1 my favorite actor of all time.1. Sean Connery2. Pierce Brosnan3. Roger Moore4. Timothy Dalton5. Daniel Craig6. George Lazenby
Master Scottb Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Yeah my list is about the same as Maverikk's, I think Connery and Brosnan were the best Bond actors.
Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted November 21, 2011 Founder / Operator Posted November 21, 2011 Thanks for suggesting the forum, Mav. I had it on the back-burner for adding in 2012 before Skyfall, but you swayed me. Personally, while Connery has the better films, I can't say he entertains me more than two others... 1. Craig 2. Brosnan 3. Connery 4. Moore 5. Dalton (seriously underrated, though) 6. Lazenby
Phil in the Blank Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 1. Craig2. Dalton3. Connery4. Brosnan5. Moore6. LazenbyBut I don't think we have had a bad bond yet.
The Creator Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Anyone putting Connery anywhere other than first is lying.
Phil in the Blank Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Damn you for spotting my web of deceit
lab276 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 1. Moore2. Brosnan3. Dalton4. Connery5. Craig6. Lazenby
pinocchio Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 ConneryMooreBrosnanCraigLazenbyDaltonConnery defined Bond -- Moore had the greatest entertainment value IMO -- Brosnan somehow tried to be a combination of both actors -- Craig hasn't delivered enough material to call him really great -- Lazenby is underrated IMO -- and Dalton never understood Bond at all (wasn't his fault alone; the writers/producers at this time had no idea how to push the franchise to another level)
lab276 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Apparently Dalton is the one that captured Bond the best.
pinocchio Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Bond has a lot of fans and some of them like to play contrarians -- calling QOS a great movie or calling Timothy Dalton the greatest Bond actor ever and so on.
Phil in the Blank Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 I have only read one bond book, casino royale, but I can confidently say that Dalton captured the bond of that book better than Connery did. Does that make him a better bond? Not necessarily, just because book bond came first doesn't mean that you can't think that Connery improved that character, still it's food for thought
CoolioD1 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Connery obvious. A real man if there ever was one. 3
Maverikk Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) I have only read one bond book, casino royale, but I can confidently say that Dalton captured the bond of that book better than Connery did. Does that make him a better bond? Not necessarily, just because book bond came first doesn't mean that you can't think that Connery improved that character, still it's food for thought I have read ALL of Fleming's Bonds multiple times, and I can say in all confidence that Connery nails Bond. Even Fleming was impressed with him. Read Dr. No or From Russia With Love,or hell, even Moonraker, who's story is nothing like that of the movie, and it's impossible not to see Connery. Here's my hardcover collection on my bookshelf. Pay no attention to the big book; that's Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes collection. Edited November 22, 2011 by Maverikk 1

Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted November 23, 2011 Founder / Operator Posted November 23, 2011 Anyone putting Connery anywhere other than first is lying.I think its all about timing and the audience. Had I grown up with Connery, I probably wouldn't ever consider ranking him anything other than #1. But I grew up with Brosnan (and now Craig), so while I respect Connery as the original and the definitive template of who Bond is supposed to -- and as the actor with the better movies -- if I were stuck on an island somewhere and only allowed to watch one James Bond movie/actor, it wouldn't be his.Honestly, I think Craig has the potential to match him in terms of greatness as remembered by history...he just needs one or two more really good movies. QOS wasn't all that great, but I'd still take it over half of Brosnan's films.
