Man, original sci-fi is dying a slow death this year (Oblivion, After Earth, Pacific Rim).Elysium is the last hope.

Sure they are, unfortunately.

 

I was one of those believed Oblivion will be the best reviewed of them all. I was wrong.

 

Then some believed PR would be the best reviewed of them all and break out huge. They were wrong.

 

Still, some of the rest believe Elysium will be the best reviewed of them all. They could be wrong too.

 

Then there is Gravity ...

 

At this point, I dont think any of them would turn out to be universally great received great sci-fi film.

 

Sci-fi / nonsequel films of this summer outside, many also believed MoS would be the greatest of them all. It didnt. Trailer was a traitor yet they refused the possibility.

 

Three months later, STiD is still the best reviewed summer film yet it was a box office disappointment.

 

Three months later, many still hate IM3 and call it awful yet it is the biggest box office success, by a large margin.
