ecstasy
So Pacific Rim won't even match Super 8 in total? I see Box Office Mojo has stopped the Inception comparison and is now using Cowboys and Aliens. So if it follows that movie it will cross 100m.

mahnamahna
No way it gets that high, but I'll point out that next week is the first week in a while with only one new major release. To Do List and Way Way Back are popping up in a few places, but for most theaters, they'll only have to make room for The Wolverine. So I think we could be looking at some of the best drops for holdovers all summer long. Certainly The Heat will have another good drop, but other films should join in on the action too. Yeah honestly I'd say this weekend and the next will be the ones where it's more relaxed when it comes to holds/drops I'd say only PR, WWZ Conjuring, Red 2, and RIPD will have sizable drops since they're all genre films - animation and comedy will be completely unscathed this weekend Pacific Rim: 43% (9.3 million) WWZ: 44% (2.9 million) Conjuring: 45% (Wolvie isn't its target demo) Red 2: 55% (doesn't seem to have great WOM) RIPD: 70% (this'll just crash and burn out of the dollar theaters before Labor Day ) The rest of the drops? Monsters University: 14% (4.4 million) The Heat: 17% (7.8 million) Despicable Me 2: 18% (20.5 million) Turbo: 22% (16.7 million) Grown Ups 2: 26% (14.6 million) With a 62% increase for The Way Way Back (3.9 million) It'll be the first weekend with breathing room since June 7 Edited July 22, 2013 by mahnamahna
