Indian Box Office Thread | Jawan overtakes Pathaan, becomes highest grossing Indian movie of 2023

Opening weekend 37.5 crore? I am expecting it to easily go past 50 crore.

Isn't the record 53? Didn't realize this was going to be this big upfront. I guess I have gotten a bit poor with Bollywood predictions, I'll modify.

I think I saw the Ormax projections listed somewhere and just posted some quick predictions without putting much thought into it. Check the edit.

It's remarkable how quickly the dynamics of the Bollywood BO have changed. Up until about mid-2009, I was following the Bollywood box office as closely as the US BO, and at that time I was just getting used to big films only doubling their first week totals. That was frontloaded 4-5 years ago. Now, its a completely different story. Makes me wonder if we're even going to see Laghe Raho Munnabhai, CDI, TZP-esque runs at all anymore. Forget about the pre-multiplex-era monsters that make Titanic's legs look like tame.

Yes, from a normal Friday. But this being a holiday (Good Friday), Friday should be a bit bigger than Saturday.

Right. Didn't realize that Good Friday was a BO thing there now. I guess I'll modify again (last time this time :P)

UPDATE: Housefull 2 had 90-100% occupancy in morning shows all across India.

Cool. So Good Friday can be written in as a solid holiday date now I take it. 20 crore day looks possible Edited by spizzer

I think even doubling first week totals will be a rare thing now. 'Kahaani' with outstanding WOM will barely get 2.5x.

It is all about big openings now, since distributors get higher share during opening week, and effect of WOM (which is generally bad for Bollywood films) is less.

Housefull 2 took a fantastic in Ludhiana, a key centre of East Punjab. The film faced competition from a local Punjabi film Mirza - The Untold Story which took a mind boggling historic opening with over capacity houses across Punjab and to have near 100% collections against such competition is excellent. The first show openings from all three multiplexes of Ludhiana are as follows.

10.05am 295/318 92.77%

All-time biggest opening days:

1. Agneepath (2012) - 21.72 crore

2. Bodyguard (2011) - 20.66 crore

3. Ra.One (2011) - 14.76 crore

4. Don 2 (2011) - 14.61 crore

5. Dabangg (2010) - 14.45 crore

Housefull 2 is locked to get #3, but beating 'Bodyguard' will be tough. I think I am too optimistic with my 20 crore predict as it is.
