Housefull 2 Opens Well At Multiplexes

Housefull 2 took a good opening at multiplexes with collections in the 70-75% region on average. The advance of the film had been very slow till Thursday when it really picked up and Friday has seen a good opening though well short of films like Agneepath and Bodyguard as they were released on Republic Day and Eid respectively and were action films.

The best opening came in North India, Gujarat, Rajasthan and CI where collections were 80% while Mumbai city, Maharashtra and South were more towards the 60-70% mark. In Punjab it took an excellent 80% start despite a volcano in the form of Punjabi film Mirza - The Untold Story hitting the state with over capacity houses.

Some centres in the North opened to 100% while there were some centres in the South which were less than 50%. Basically its good to very good opening in the core Hindi film circuits and a good to decent opening elsewhere. The single screen opening which gets going at noon should also be similar to the opening at multiplexes.

Housefull 2 Has Good First Day

Housefull 2 had a good first day as it collected around 13.50 crore nett as per early estimates. Despite the first day being a holiday, some of the holiday affect was cancelled out by various headwinds against the film.

In Punjab and Nizam/Andhra it faced two juggernaut regional films in the form of Mirza - The Untold Story and Racha respectively. Both films were first choices in their states and set the box office on fire.

The IPL also hit the film especially in Rajasthan and Maharashtra as the local teams were playing and collections were lower in the shows clashing with the matches. The film probably lost around 1-1.25 crore on the day due to this competition.

In East Punjab the film should have collected around 1.35 crore nett going by the figures in Delhi/UP but due to the Punjabi film it collected just 1.10 crore nett, a loss of 20%. Similarly in Nizam, the collections should have been 70 lakhs nett plus but it has grossed just 55-60 lakhs.

Still the film came out with an opening day which is the probably the highest first day for a non action genre film with only likes of Agneepath, Bodyguard, Ra.One, Don 2 and Dabangg ahead of it.

The film is a success but the key will be the Sunday family audience which will determine how big of a success it can be.

42 Crore Weekend For Housefull 2

Housefull 2 has collected around 42 crore nett over its first weekend. The approx breakdown for the weekend is 13.25 crore nett on Friday, 12.75 crore nett on Saturday and 16 crore nett on Sunday. The collections have been been affected by IPL matches and regional films which makes the 42 crore figure even more impressive.

On Friday Maharashtra region was hit by IPL and then on Saturday the West Bengal and Mysore region which always shows Saturday growth was hit as collections came in lower in both circuits.

The box office is being hit depending on what team plays, if its a Mumbai match then that circuit gets hit and if its Kolkata match then that circuit drops.

In Punjab the collections took a huge hit due to a Punjabi film as the weekend came out just 3.40 crore nett approx in the circuit. Despite the IPL and regional film factors against the film, it has still emerged with a very good weekend and by far the biggest for an Akshay Kumar starrer beating the 36.50 crore nett figure of Tees Maar Khan.

Housefull 2 was rock steady in Nagpur single screens on Monday with just a 31.5% drop from corresponding show on Friday. Below are the Monday noon show figures with Friday noon show numbers in brackets.

63 crore estimated opening week. 1 crore more than my first prediction. Why Fake? Why'd you subliminally instigate me to go higher :P

Sorry man. Don't know what I was thinking. Early sales around here were on the levels of Agneepath, so I thought it could do 20 crore on Friday. :)
