Actually I only just thought of a wildcard nomination I'd love to see happen based on the trailers alone: Seamus McGarvey for Godzilla.

 

Yeah, I, too, think the cinematography we've seen in the trailer is simply amazing, but I doubt they'll let blockbusters in because... y'know.

No I'm not sure I do. Plenty of blockbusters have been nominated for this. Sure they are often blockbusters that are also up for Best Picture, but even if you take those away, you still have Batman Begins, TDK, Skyfall, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Terminator 2, Batman Forever... okay maybe we best forget about that last one.

Good point. That said, it's blatant Oscar bait and it looks positively gorgeous. Biggest competition is probably Interstellar, but I don't see that winning after both Inception and Gravity

Plus Jolie & Deakins' mutual buzz can help each other, similar with Cuaron+Lubezki situation
