a2k
Dang, bad drop. Looking like less then 40 mil 2nd weekend. Thor 2 had 3.5m on Thursday and made 35.6m in the 2nd weekend. CA2 will have 4.4-4.5m on Thursday. I think it's looking at a 43-44m weekend.
#ED
More than likely to hit 40M+ this weekend but less than 40M is still a possibility.
Subzero
With hardly any competition besides Rio2 (which is not getting very good reviews), if TWS does anything below $43 mil is bad news.
Caladbolg
Thor 2 had 3.5m on Thursday and made 35.6m in the 2nd weekend. CA2 will have 4.4-4.5m on Thursday. I think it's looking at a 43-44m weekend. Yeah Thor 2 had a 197% Friday jump followed by a 59% Sat bump. If Cap got those numbers, looking at a really good 2nd weekend. But with Rio 2, and even Oculus to an extent, it probably won't get as good bumps. I don't see it going below $40m unless some how wom turned sour and toxic. Durden
Rio 2 will fly into theaters this weekend from Fox and will easily peck away the rest of the flock of openers that includes Lionsgate’s Draft Day the third Kevin Costner-starrer this year and the horror film Oculus from Relativity. The current thinking is that the animated sequel will do roughly $40M to $42M while the second weekend of Disney’s Captain America will play out to mid-to-high $30M number http://www.deadline.com/2014/04/box-office-rio-2-to-chase-out-captain-america-for-no-1-box-office-squack/

I wouldn't call it bad, just normal. Extremely frontloaded genre.

TLK
Why is everyone so hung up on Rio's reviews ? It is a sequel that will appeal to kids and the reviews are about as irrelevant as they can be.

Caladbolg
Deadline article changed it to "it might surprise" hahaha and added a bunch of info while the second weekend of Disney’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier will play out to mid-to-high $30M number, but it might surprise. It depends on the percentage drop from its second weekend. Captain America grossed $95M with $10.2M coming from Thursday last weekend (its debut), so if it holds at 50%, it grosses $42.4M. The first Captain America dropped 61% in its second weekend, the first Thor dropped only 47% while its sequel Thor: The Dark World dropped 57%. The first Iron Man dropped only 48.1%, but subsequent sequels dropped 59.4% and 58.4%, respectively. All Marvel titles. Given the stellar reviews for Captain America, it might surprise.
