3x and 3.36x are not nearly the same.

If we consider the difference in opening, it's nearly the same I'd say. Avengers had x3 with 200M whilst The Dark Knight had x3.36 with 158M.

Yeah, and legs aren't going to get better. Only two superhero films since TDK have managed 3x multis, Megamind and The Avengers (TASM had a Tuesday opening). If you don't want to include Megamind, that's just one in the last 5 and a bit years. In fact, it might never happen again.

Iron Man broke 3x just a few months before TDK. Thor 1 and Cap 1 were both over 2.7x, Considering most of the comic movies in recent years have been sequels besides those, I think it is a little premature to be declaring 3x an unreachable goal for future comic films.

TA already acted like TDK box office-wise. You can argue about the broader cultural impact of each movie until the cows come home, but it'd be silly to suggest TDK's run was totally unique in box office terms.

3x multis aren't that common even at the best of times and when they are it's either a bit over or the film is animated, a comedy or Oscar bait.

Wouldn't it be fair to say that Spider-man in 2001, TDK in in 2008 and Avengers in 2012 all had fantastic runs for such large grossing films?

Spiderman had a 3.58X

TDK had a 3.38X

Avengers a 3X

When you factor in adjusted numbers, TDK and Avengers are basically the same and Spider-man adjusts to a 165 mill OW and a 580 mill gross, again very close.  So these three super-hero films are the creme de la creme, imo when it comes to gross and OW and multiplier.

Marvel plant???Anyway yeah!Didnt we are the millers manage a 6x multiplier?

Lots of comedies get very big multipliers because there is no rush to see them.  You can't compare a film that opened to 28 mill and finished with 150 to a film that opened to 200 and finished with 600.

 @ first pageWhat's with Rio though? The studio dumped it?

Why is it considered a dump?  It opened on the exact same weekend as the first.

But it should do well internationally.

It made almost 500 million for the first one.

The first one opened with 39 M+. Almost no growth there. Considering inflation, it means this will sell fewer tickets on its OW.

Not a lot less. Certainly kept a bit more of its audience than KFP2. Edited by lab276
