Sisters | Fey/Poehler | December 18, 2015 | First Trailer on Page 2!

Recommended Posts

Yes, that's right, apparently Tina Fey and Amy Poehler decided that they make a pretty decent team. Who knew?

Release date currently scheduled for the exact same day as Star Wars.

This is the very definition of counter-programming.

Quote

Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore directs The Nest, about two disconnected sisters cleaning out their parents’ family home who throw one last high school rager for their now-grown former classmates.

I've seen how counter programming works and it doesn't always turn out so well for the second film.

Winnie the Pooh opened to a massive 7 mill against Deathly Hallows 2.

Delivery Man tried the stupid idea of opening against Catching Fire.  Result? Less than 8M OW.

Lucky You opened in 2500 theaters against Spiderman 3.  2.7M

Happy Feet 2 got cute and opened against Breaking Dawn 1 and disappointed with 20 mill

Mamma Mia did open to 27mill against the Dark Knight, so there's that and The Blind Side opened against New Moon to 34 mill.

So it's really not in its favour to open against a juggernaut like SW, but then again, female driven films like TBS and MM have done well.

This actually sounds like a plot for a movie that SHOULD come out on the same day as Star Wars 7:

Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore will direct the film, which follows two disconnected sisters summoned home to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the family house. They decide to throw one final rager in their childhood home, which turns into the cathartic experience that a bunch of ground-down adults really need.

So appropriate to have a movie about growing up and letting go and escaping back to your childhood on December 18.

It's a Fey/Poehler comedy movie. It doesn't need to make $150M to be considered a hit.

If it gets good reviews, people will go see it over the Christmas break.

The last time a female targeted movie opened opposite a long awaited genre movie was "Mamma Mia" and "The Dark Knight". "Mamma Mia" still managed 600M WW.

Yes, there are exceptions of course.
