But what's the point of fudging if you're not getting over a number? Like of the number was over Cap 2'a Friday number then that would make sense

Most likely to give them the advantage of the media reporting a bigger opening day than Iron Man ($35.2m) and TASM ($35.0m).

That makes very little sense to be honest. The only comparisons which can be made right now are TASM and Cap2. The OD number in the end was still higher than TASM (lower without previews, but that was the case with the 35.5M estimate as well) and lower than Cap2 (even with the estimate).

The summer movie season is tingling--THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN 2 dropped a debut of $91,608,337.

Everytime I check in on this movie something is dropping.

April the TASM apologists are all: It's going to do $150m

May they say it's still going to do $125m

It's RT score will be 80% or better NO It's RT score will stay above SM3

OW they are proclamming still at least as much as cap but not ruling out $100m

Sunday estimates $94, then Sun was softer than thought---$92.

Monday actuals $91.6m

Now it's all: It won't drop 60% second weekend.

The TASM apologists are in for another rude awakening this time next week.

Probably ASM1 was the main one they wanted to beat. Would be embarrassing to move it to Friday and make less money than a mid-week opening day.

No offense but what's wrong with you? Is this really. This big if a deal? It's not being an "apologist" to hope for the best for a film

Weren't you the one going around saying that ASM2 was cut CAP2's legs off everywhere?

No. I said it could hurt it which many others did as well. If it didn't hurt it then that's good. I don't laugh at people or call them apologists for saying things Edited by John Marston

To be fair it was a holiday week and summer.

Hasn't that happened though? Cap 2 fell hard in most markets when ASM2 was released. Even this week in the US, Cap 2 fell the highest among all new releases. It may not have cut off the legs completely, but definitely will cause Cap2 to end up lower than it would have.

Well sure everyone assumed Spidey would hurt it. But that's okay. It's all good.

Actually no it didn't. You need to check the international threads. Cap held well in a lot of places.

In some countries yes, in others like Brazil it still held pretty well

Ed, you might need to plan a day trip to DC like.... right now.

I give it a day before it leaks online. Maybe as soon as the next showing of whatever IMAX movie is playing at the air and space museum.

And please, don't forget to have an HD camera to film the whole thing
