Ousted Disney exec told DeSantis 'you're right' in fight with media giant (Yahoo Finance)

Quote

Perlmutter told The Journal he's convinced he was fired because he pushed for more aggressive cost-cutting: "I have no doubt that my termination was based on fundamental differences in business between my thinking and Disney leadership, because I care about return on investment."

Perlmutter said he repeatedly expressed concerns over the company's excessive spending, particularly around its Marvel film productions.

"All they talk about is box office, box office," Perlmutter said. "I care about the bottom line. I don’t care how big the box office is. Only people in Hollywood talk about box office."

I suspect they've wanted to get rid of Perlmutter for a long time and give gave them the perfect excuse.

Let's face it. relationships between the US and China are going down the drain, and of course there will be consquences for the entertaiment industry.

Don't see it getting any better, frankly, until Xi is no longer in power.

They got rid of him a long time ago; this is just Perl doing a sour grapes routine.

Not sure if this is the right place to post about this but via Jeff Sneider:

Dave Filoni is getting his own STAR WARS movie tmrw, and furthermore, Lucasfilm is trying to codify the SW universe around the worlds that Filoni and Jon Favreau have created, which is why other movies and shows are being killed. Filoni = New Lucas.

On a side note, if this true and given this is Disney after all, Grogu cinematic debut would be inevitable I guess (toys=$) maybe jedi academy with Rey post The Rise of Skywalker?

Have to admit, I'm not sure why DeSantis wants to harm Disney because it won't end well for him. WDW is a huge tourist magnet for Orlando as well as a huge employer.

B/c he can't lose.  Rarely does any person or company take on the government and win long term.  You might win a battle, but government, by its very nature, will almost always win the war.  It has, quite literally, all the power.  Especially if the people are on its side, and for now in FL, Ron does have the majority of the people on his side.

So, for Ron, it's an easy win/win - he continues to build national and state political street cred while having little risk that Disney would ever abandon their theme park cash cow no matter what he does, b/c it's literally supporting their D+ ventures,

Knowing CA isn't any better for them (and their only other landing spots, France and China, also aren't better), I'm actually shocked new management actually elevated the war vs seeking a truce.

A truce helps both parties...a war is ultimately only going to help one long term...and not the one we might want.

He can't exactly win, either. He already looks weak after Disney outmaneuvered him. But because his ego can't take an L and move on, his obsession isn't going to help with with people beyond the die hards.

In fairness Perlmutter giving an interview is newsworthy. He's famously reclusive. There are only like 3 photos of him, and the last two were only taken in the last couple years.

Not to get too political but LMAO. He's already lost. He's losing his grip on any and all R goodwill because the man doesn't know how to fight culture wars. And no, Government does not always win the war. Not against massive corporations. Who do you think runs the country? We live in a Capitalist world.

I think @TwoMisfits is hoping that Disney is going to collapse for some reason!

No, I like Disney.  I have D+:).  I just call it like I see it.

When you live long enough, you see a lot of folks righteously take on government (anyone sit through an IRS audit).  And no matter how righteous, no one tends to win, it's just how government works.  If you win, it's normally b/c they let you or you played REALLY nice with them.

I mean, he who makes the laws and enforces the laws can just change them when they lose...I mean, isn't that the discussion right now.  They found a FL law that lets them blow up the agreement b/c they can use future passed laws to do it.

Government knows how to win.  It's why they are the power.

Maybe it's my government cynicism...but can you really go wrong being a cynic right now in FL?
