They should lend Godzilla to someone else, Gareth is a good director but using the same technique he did for the first movie won't work for the sequel.

As long as he uses that approach for the villain and not Godzilla it'll be fine.

Can we discuss the fact that a X-Men movie will open over 100M in 2014? And that it will also open above any other Marvel movie not containing Iron Man? And that will also have the biggest OW of the year so far? All of it seems so impressive to me.

He won't keeps us away from the battle until the end. If you are talking about the marketing campaign selling a completely different movie, then that is not Gareth's fault.

If X-Men opens on the higher end of the current estimate ($42 million) it could potentially make a run at $100 million 3-day.

I think even if it opens to $38M, it'll still do 100M. Sunday drop should be around 10-15%.

Well if you call a movie that and market him as the main draw, people today are gonna expect him to be the main character.

People made valid criticisms about the film, but this seriously is not it, especially when Godzilla in almost every single film has been essentially deus ex machina.

They've managed to make X-Men an event movie again. Something they haven't been able to do since 2006.

In the sequels. This was supposed to be Godzilla's "origin movie" so the lack of Godzilla was inexcusable

Everyone knows who Godzilla is though. He's a big Dinosaur monster who is an allegory for the atomic bomb/nature ((Depending on the film)) who breaths fire and destroys cities/fights giant monsters. Bing bang boom. There's the Godzilla origin story.

Dude, 1954 is considered the origin film, and that only had one major sequence and three minor ones for Godzilla.

Granted its a better film, but "the lack" argument is not really the problem. It's the characters that didn't do well = the second act just didn't hold the movie together.

Which they explained in a throwaway scene. Hell Godzilla was only first mentioned in this scene while the MUTOs had full origins and were driving the plot

Even if it hits 40, it should do 100.

40

35

32.5

That's 107.5 mill.

Because the MUTOs were original creatures never seen before.
