That will be a very interesting war Insurgent (from 290M (+ 3D)) vs Scorch Trials (from +- 350M) Seems a balanced war Edited November 2, 2014 by MazeRunner23
Clef Ment
Very good legs in France for the genre. It's doing better than the new Omar Sy movie.

bcf26
The Maze Runner opening against The Fault in our Stars on Feb. 20 and the 2nd week of Fifty Shades Of Grey. Whoa that's back to back to back book to movie adaptations. I hope TMR does well in Japan.
DAJK
I have no clue what to predict for TMR in Japan. What are some comparable titles?
Mockingjay Raphael
The Maze Runner has one territory to go, but it won’t be until May 2015 when Japan finds itself in the labyrinth. The Fox film added another $1.62M this frame, elevating the cume to $234.3M. In its 6th week of being embraced by France, TMR brought in another $622K taking the Gallic cume to $23.9M. http://deadline.com/2014/11/international-box-office-mockingjay-part-1-interstellar-first-weekend-results-1201293926/

What happened to premiering in February? Does anyone know if May is a good playing time in Japan? Is there a holiday in Japan during that month where TMR can benefit from it? Mockingjay Raphael
'Fox’s The Maze Runner wended its way to a further $565K in 11 territorires this frame with the increasingly reliable Venezuela market jumping 2% in its 5th outing. And with a few more weeks left in theaters, and with Japan on the way, I don't see TMR missing those numbers. And all that success off of a $34M budget vs. $85M for Divergent. I can't wait to see how TMR: Scorch Trials does against Insurgent next year. Edited December 1, 2014 by sfran43
picores
It'll need around $12m in Japan to hit 350m WW. I dont see that happening.

I think more like $11m, considering it hasn't yet received it's dollar theater expansion yet domestically, which can give another $500k-$1m, plus it can squeeze out another $500,000+ from it's remaining OS theaters (excluding Japan of course). With that being said, while it can bomb in Japan like most YA or superhero movies, it can also surprise with over $10M, much like it surprised it's way to over $20M in Korea (and China), where most YA franchises failed to reach $18M (with the exception of HP). Most recently Mockingjay, which only grossed a measly $5M in Korea so far, and won't even make it to $10M. Interstellar did mega blocbuster numbers in korea and china but bombed hard in Japan. I am sure this will bomb. YA films just dont do well there.
