Weekend Thread. Friday Numbers: Equalizer 12.8-14.5, Box 5.6-6.8m, Maze 4 (Rth)

Damn, Tombstones got slaughtered by The Equalizer. :o

It did to Tombstones what Tombstones did November Man but at least that was NM's 4th w/e not it's 2nd. (that $4.2m estimate is also shockingly lower than NM's 2nd w/e).  $30m now looks like a long shot because next week should see a big theater cut.

Universal's scheduling for it never made sense.   Tombstones and Equalizer are far too similar in tone and core audience to be scheduled that close together.

The last day tracked on BOM for it was Wed and it wasn't listed in the drops/add for Theater Count this w/e.

Both it and MALEFICENT have stopped to report numbers three to four days ago and both were released around the same time.

So I guess, they will be officially out pretty soon.

Weinstein's strategy for Eleanor Rigby looks like another bust. The Her & Him parts are scheduled for Oct release. I wonder if he'll do a quick dump like he did for those two foreign films he released earlier this year with no marketing into 50 theaters each on the same w/e.

Weinstein seems to buy up films then can't decide what to do with them. Hes lucky that Imitation Game will likely be an Oscar contender.

Look at the top 12, the number for all films is down because not all films get estimates, but once actuals come tomorrow it should be up.

It doesn't change much. In any case, it's still a bad September and the year overall is now over $400m behind last year. A very slight uptick (if that) in one weekend in September is not enough to save the year. Luckily, 2011 slows down a lot now, so it shouldn't be too hard to catch.
