Weekend Thread. Friday Numbers: Equalizer 12.8-14.5, Box 5.6-6.8m, Maze 4 (Rth)

Recommended Posts

Maze Runner at $150m worldwide already. It will easily blow past Divergent's worldwide take.

It's at $90.7m OS now with China, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Venezuela, and other markets that are yet to open.

$300m worldwide is locked. Huge success on a $34m budget.

1. Solid for Equalizer! #4 for September and still top 10 adjusted. All thanks to Denzel. Good movie too.

2. LETS BE COPS is about to pass $80M off a $17M opening. Incredible legs for that kovie and also incredible that it beat the higher profile Sex Tape, TLAM2, Blended, and Million Ways.

3. Gotg, Lucy, Turtles, and 100 Foot are still legging it out. Nice. All nothing short of incredible runs.

4. Dont care about TMR but good for it for not having a 50% drop.

I still think the biggest surprise of the summer were GotG and Malefiecent.

I still think it's a toss up between GOTG and Lucy. Maleficent definitely over performed, but pretty much everyone was expecting decent numbers so it isn't as much a surprise as the others.

GOTG had huge opening and legged its way past Iron Man. If it had done half what it did domestic it would have been considered a decent opening for a new property.

Lucy came out of nowhere with that 44m opening and the vocal group that hates it were predicting a massive collapse due to "toxic WOM", but Lucy sprouted legs and also put up huge OS numbers. Looking at Limitless, which Lucy was being compared to, Lucy could end up with close to 3x the WW total.

Just watched Equalizer. They should have just named it "Denzel takes care of business". It is basically a highlight reel for Denzel, not that that it a bad thing.

Denzel Washington is Denzel Washington in Denzel Washington. The man owns the role. He is amazing.

Is this the first TV-to-movie adaptation where the source material was completely inconsequential? (The closest example I can think of is S.W.A.T. - as with this, it was basically an original movie with some character names grafted on, right?)

The movie bore little resemblance to the tv show, but...

...the way the ending was set up it looks like any sequels will be a bit closer. At the end he put in the newspaper ad advertising his "services", just like the show.
