IS gross up to day 39 (w/o previews) = 162.4M. Multiplier for SF (268.0/28.1) = 9.537. Multiplier for IS (162.4/14.2) = 11.44. Interstellar's 11.46 is 20.2% greater than Skyfall's 9.537 through the same day. If it maintains that pace for the rest of its run, it will finish at 186.5M assuming that it basically runs as long as Skyfall did. This is the method I've been using for daily/total projections for 5 years. It can be adjusted to start on any weekend as well (I can treat the 1st 4 weeks gross as a starting point and begin the comparison on the 5th weekend or 5th Friday or however I please). I will be very surprised if it has that kind of run the rest of the way. Skyfall started at a much bigger number, so it was able to stay in theaters longer. I think it will finish right around $180m. Tele's club for Contact Adjusted is going to be an interesting comparison. Gonna be very close. Look for it to have a massive jump and beat out movies this weekend like Theory of Everything, DADT, HB2.....and probably finish in line with whatever Interstellar makes. Just here in LA, for example, it's losing both the TCL Chinese and AMC Citywalk IMAXes (which were 15/70 IMAXs for INTERSTELLAR). Those are dual-format, digital-equipped venues. Around here, Hacienda Crossings is also dropping Interstellar 15/70 for Hobbit digital tonight. But what I assume John meant is that at least some IMAX venues which are *not* equipped for digital (e.g., science museums) will be keeping IS. For example, the non-digital/non-3D Hackworth IMAX Dome at the Tech Museum of Innovation in San Jose is running IS at least to the end of this year. Yes, but honestly, there are only a handful of those theaters, generally in science venues. They're usually just incorporated into the preview numbers for the latest movie (since they basically just start earlier in the same day). There's a planned renovation for the Boeing theater in the spring, so they may play it until that happens. It's going to get a new screen, laser projector, new sound, and so forth. I'm not entirely sure they're going to keep the 15/70 projector after that, although I hope they do. Their site (http://www.pacificsciencecenter.org/Future-Ready/the-future-of-imax) isn't entirely clear. Although, aside from that, it sounds really cool. The renovated Cinerama with Atmos and a Christie 6p projector was really nice for the Hobbit (2d) marathon yesterday. I actually didn't mind DOS and BOTFA, both have their issues but are enjoyable movies. Now AUJ on the other hand is a completely redundant movie apart from the riddles in the dark scene. Most things from AUJ are covered in either DOS or BOTFA again, and the dinner scene with all the different dwarfs is completely unnecessary as a good 9 of those dwarfs have nothing to do in the coming movies. In fact, I feel that most of the ill will toward the Hobbit trilogy can be traced back to that one dinner scene, which just took too long and kept the audiences bored for a full 43:25. If the start was snappier, I think the perception of that movie and by extension the rest of the trilogy may have been better. Honestly, I haven't seen anything at the PACCAR in probably 20 years, well before the renovation. So I have no idea what it's like in comparison.
