See my post on p. 30. Im just sick of the stereotype and tired of seeing someone say it every 2 pages.

"Middle America" can be interpreted as middle class America, which is definitely a more accurate assessment of the audience.

So... Completely left field here, but IF 30m OD holds, it could be looking at s 4 day of 100m+, and IF it plays out like a normal Oscar film with strong legs than it could potentially win 2014 even though it made nearly all of its money in 2015.

Though isnt it the middle class that goes to vast majority of movies anyway? Soo yeah I dont see it.

It's mostly the date night 20-30 demo and old people that go. Movies like AS are what draw the married suburbanite demo; the kind that doesn't actively chat about films online.

Clint Eastwood'sAmerican Sniperis smashing records at the North American box office, where it's now projected to earn $75 million or more over the long Martin Luther King weekend, notably more than expected. That would mark the largest opening of all time for the month of January, as well as one of the top openings ever for an R-rated title, not accounting for inflation. To boot, it would be the No. 2 opening for a winter release afterMel Gibson'sThe Passion of the Christ($83.8 million). Friday's take alone was an estimated $28 million-$30 million, including $5.3 million from late-night Thursday runs.

Well you may see it as suburban folk, but most here are using that term to imply gun happy, flag toting, bible turning Texans. Just know that if AS was pulling $20M for the 4-day, then maybe yes, like HIFR, but when a movie like this is potentially pulling $100M in 4 days, and the fact that theres military installations in every state, people with faith in every state, and people who like guns and USA in every state, it shows AS is sweeping the nation, not the "Heartland."

Yes the Heartland is where the biggest draws may come from, but im tired of posters dumbing out one part of America, and acting like thr other parts are too good. Minnesota is the conplete opposite of Texas and Mississippi and Dex said his FB wall is full of raves. This is not a Heartland or "Mid America" thing, this is a USA (and looking to be worldwide) thing.

Some rather large crowds at my local theater for AS. Dunno about sellouts, but it seemed business was brisk all around. The showing of Birdman I saw was quite full, too.

And Birdman is pretty great. I really didn't know what to expect, since I'd never seen a trailer and only knew that Keaton was playing an actor who had been in a superhero film (so, a version of himself). And it's funny, has stellar acting, and OMG that cinematography is fantastic.

(As for AS, I'll skip it. I don't know if there's a film in wide release that I'm less interested in, whatever it's about. But cool box office there.)

I think this film appealed well as it was a war movie told from from a more American point of view then the typical 'outsider' nuanced point of view.

Meaning it was more relatable to its core audience.

I think the fact it has American in its name has given it a huge boost.
