Lol at Child 44 that film looks so unappealing no wonder it got dumped.

Tom Hardys box office record is depressing.

Hopefully Mad Max is a hit though.

Hardy chooses a lot of small films that never have a chance of catching on. Child 44, Locke, The Drop, etc.

Just got into a mind-numbing discussion about how "there's no way Star Wars doesn't beat Avatar" according to a friend

yay box office discussion in real life *shoots self*

Can't find video of this online, but way back when Jake Lloyd was asked about the potential box office performance of Phantom Menace, and he replied "It'll blow Titanic off the map". I remember watching that interview when it aired in 99, google a bit, couldn't find the interview, but found corroboration

Locke and The Drop were indies.  Child 44 appears to be one of those instances where the film just didn't turn out well.  The film cost 40-50m, but Lionsgate clearly knew they had a misfire on their hands from test screenings so they dumped it in only 500 theaters.

Sony is having a CRAP year. Just terrible.

Sony's only released two films so far this year, right? The Wedding Ringer and Chappie.

Actually, it looks like they only have three in the first half of the year. But they've got 12 in the last half. Weird that they'd backload the year so heavily.

In Jake's defense, he was, what, 10 at the time? And (foolishly or otherwise), he was far from the only person who thought that.

Oh, yeah. Tons of people said that beating Titanic was guaranteed. After a few weeks when it became apparent it wasn't going to get there, people tried to organize repeat viewings a month after release because it was necessary to beat Titanic.

Actually, I think people also said that setting an OW record was guaranteed, even with the Wednesday opening. It did manage the biggest OD, I believe, but came up short.

Thankfully, I think we've mostly found better things to stan for in the past decade and a half.
