Gopher
It's kind of remarkable how it's either feast or famine at the box office this year. Almost no middle ground of any kind. The 60 mil tentpole is basically extinct, even if it turns into 200-300m worldwide (as they often did). Even Gone Girl-- a smart movie for adults that did 368m off a 61m budget--needed Fincher, Affleck and a hugely popular book to get a greenlight. The midbudget movie has left theaters and moved to TV. terrestrial
The only movie which the entire forum predicted with less than a 5% divergence from the final gross based on the average prediction would be Ant-Man. We seem to have gone high on most movies, maybe it was the after effect of a great Winter and Spring box office. Jurassic World was missed by everyone by a large margin. Interesting how despite that certain posters here insist on Ant-Man being underperforming... I think you are right, after some bigger movies the expectaions seem to go up, I thought the same also last year after a few bigger surprises People seem to want too fast new records or thinking a few new records highten up the level of the new normal? Bishop54
Looks doubtful. The expansion will get it to 645, the major issue it will face during the expansion is that Furious 7, Inside Out, Ultron (and if WB is smart Mad Max and/or San Andreas) will all be expanding that weekend for a one week play. It is to give everyone one last chance to watch a movie on the big screen before summer movie season ends, so people will be spoiled for choice as well. Mad Max will be on blu-ray on Sept 1, I doubt it sees an expansion.
