MinaTakla
‘The Secret Life Of Pets’ Woofs It Past $500M At International Box Office Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ The Secret Life Of Pets crossed $500M at the international box office today. With $500.2M, this is yet another milestone for the animated pic that got a belly rub last month as it crossed $800M worldwide. The total global gross on the Yarrow Cheney- and Chris Renaud-helmed movie is now $866.5M. Overseas, the movie opened No. 1 in 45 markets along the rollout which began in late June. The domestic cume is $366.3M. There, it had the best opening for an original film, animated or otherwise. In a big year for animation, Pets is the 6th highest-grossing film of 2016 at the worldwide box office. Offshore highlights from Pets‘ run include being the biggest opening for an original animated film in 17 territories, and the No. 1 animated film of 2016 to date in 13. It’s also the 3rd highest-grossing Illumination film at the international box office behind Minions‘ $830.6M and Despicable Me 2‘s $607.6M. In Spain, it is the highest grossing film of 2016 and in Russia it is the 3rd highest-grossing film of all-time (behind Avatar and Zootopia). The Secret Life Of Pets 2 has been set for a July 13, 2018 release. The success of Pets, with its universal theme confirming the power of pet owners as a demo not to be ignored, comes ahead of Illumination/Universal’s Sing which delighted in its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last month after footage was teased at several industry gatherings over the past year. An original “let’s put on a show” show as Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri has referred to it, Sing lifts the curtain internationally on December 8 and bows domestically on December 21 with a voice cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly. Next up is Despicable Me 3, starring Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig and Trey Parker, which is set for June 2017; and a newly-imagined version of Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Benedict Cumberbatch for November 2018. Well, it's only $6M away for Pets to surpass BvS's $873M WW.......unless BOM in a rare circumstance, updates BvS's WW gross to a higher gross. Since that has usually happened with movies nearly more than once in a while.
