MEH-MORIAL DAY WEEKEND BOX OFFICE | Abandon all hope, the box office is dead. 3 day weekend #s X-Men 65M, Alice 28.1M, Angry Birds 18.7M, Civil War 15.1M, Neighbors 9.1M. Bad openings, horrible holdovers.

Not waiting 6 years to release a sequel would probably be a good idea. I am not saying Alice 2 wouldn't drop hard if it was released in 2012/13 but 6 years is fucking insane.

Not for animated feature sequels.

:jeb!:

If Alice 2 was a movie that people wanted to see, those two previous releases, which are months old, wouldn't have affected it.

It's not just H2H competition that can affect a film. People get satiated with a particular type of film. In this case, the family film appetite is likely already slaked by Zoo and Jungle.  It's like if you have pizza two nights in a row, you might not be up for pizza a third straight night even if you really like pizza. Call it akin to "Avengers fatigue", LOL.

45 days is enough time to work up an appetite.

So it's going to released 2 weeks after Black Panther and 2 weeks before the Flash...

Interesting. 3 superhero movies in a span of 1 month.

Wonder how that would go down.

The Flash is most likely gonna move, and the Fox/Marvel movie is most likely Deadpool 2.

Hopefully it's Deadpool 2 and not Gambit. Most people would rather choose to watch a BP or a Flash than a Gambit movie.

Btw, why do you think that Flash is going to move?

That means the actual Friday is 18.3M

laughing laugh funny face patrick stewart giggle

A 9M drop from DoFP's OD after matching his previews number. Massive lol. Time to reboot this damn thing. His actual Friday number is below the Friday number of First Class (assuming that one had previews under 3M).

Just a gut feeling.  It's already in a crowded spot.

Star Wars started the tv show thing.

So Tele doesn't like Marvel TV show but he likes Lucasfilm TV show.

IMO, there's a huge difference between what SW does and the approach Marvel takes, but if you wanna equate the two, I guess go for it?

Ok, I just checked, First Class did 3.4M on midnight shows. That means his actual Friday number was 18M. According to Nile, Apocalypse's actual Friday number is 18.3M. Massive LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

First Class was 2D only so it actually sold more tickets than Apocalypse.
