Honestly, one of the reasons why I wanted to do a short list at first was so I could hide the movies I haven't watched.

There will always be something you've never seen that you should have though. Even if it's a style genre you love.

In animation for me, there are still 16 Official WDAS films I have not seen out of 55 (they come in three blocks: everything from Saludos Amigos to Ichabod and toad, Black Cauldron and Basil and finally Brother Bear to Princess and the Frog (oh throw in Fantasia 2000 and dinosaur too)

There are one or two DreamWorks I missed.

A whole bunch of Other USA stuff and let's not even get started on Japan... I have seen 5 films from Ghibli and despite really liking to loving 4 of them (and hating the 5th), I haven't got round to watching any others.

You've watched more than me, I'm at 49 total. (Not all of which I'm sure all include on a final list.) Going to try to watch as many as I can of the reputably good ones I've missed by the end of September though.

Well, the list I have isn't a complete list of all the animated features I've seen.

Mhmm, I figured since at a very minimum HTTYD2 isn't on that list. Weird coincidence that the number you happen to have felt worthy of a list (thus far) happens to be the total number I've watched (thus far).

I don't know if I could even give an exact number of all the animated features I've watched.

As for the list itself, I'm doing an informal calculation between how much lasting impact a movie has and how recently I've seen it. For example, I haven't seen Pinocchio since I was 7, but I feel strongly that it deserves a top 10 spot. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've watched Bambi on DVD in the past 5 years, but it still doesn't stay with me as much as Pinocchio.

I have that but the exact opposite with Beauty and the beast. 11 year old boy me thought it was a decent but girl animation. 32 Year old me would likely find it genius and top 10 worthy if I could just make myself watch it again.

How could you possibly know that?

For easier to find animations, Book of Life is surprisingly excellent and really recommendable. I actually doubt that even Pixar will be able to pull off Day of the Dead better with Coco.

Totally agree. The Book of Life was the best animation of 2014

Because looking at the clips,  songs, and so forth, it feels like the kind of film that i really respond to now.

I did also rewatch little Mermaid last year and that shot up in my estimations compared to before.

Obviously i can't know for sure,  but in my old age i have started to find good story and plot as important as wisecracking genies or talking animals.

OK, that makes sense. I thought you were changing your mind just by remembering the movie, which wouldn't make sense to me.

Also if 40 mins is the requisite for a feature them that is fine.

What i didnt want is things like feast or paperman getting in. (As great as they are),

I've been wanting to do a best animated shorts listing, so I may try to organize it at some point after you finish this one up.

Is The Thief and the Cobbler eligible? Arabian Knight got a theatrical release, IIRC, but TatC itself didn't (which, uh, is understandable given its incomplete nature.) Is the Arabian Knight release sufficient, or would a vote have to be for that specifically?

Also, while World of Tomorrow isn't eligible, as a short, Hertzfeldt's It's Such a Beautiful Day did get a limited theatrical release and is (as much as I've seen) also very good, so take that into consideration. It's currently on Netflix, if you want to take a watch.
