I don't know if I could even give an exact number of all the animated features I've watched.

As for the list itself, I'm doing an informal calculation between how much lasting impact a movie has and how recently I've seen it. For example, I haven't seen Pinocchio since I was 7, but I feel strongly that it deserves a top 10 spot. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've watched Bambi on DVD in the past 5 years, but it still doesn't stay with me as much as Pinocchio.

I remember last time I saw Pinocchio I didn't love it that much, but I strongly feel if I saw it again I would appreciate it much more. too bad I don't own it on Blu-Ray.

Ooh glad I checked this sub forum and saw this now - thought this had already happened at first!

Will definitely scrape together a list by October. I'll try to be more organised this time though so I can submit some FYCs. Really want a couple of films to make the list (Tales of Earthsea etc...) and some I think not many others have seen/will have seeked out. (Summer Wars for example, though that got a US release so maybe some of you have seen it)

Will probably be tough for me to get the ordering though, my reaction to animated films seem to be in the three modes of unwatchable/okay/like, so it'll probably end up heavily nostalgia influenced.

Tales of Earthsea  depresses me.  It's fine but it's not the quality let alone the actual story of the book (or series) by a considerable margin.  I also can't help but wonder what could have been if only LeGuin had agreed to let Miyazaki make the film when he first asked instead of years  later having to settle for the son.

Summer Wars I liked but I much prefer Hosoda's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.  I tried to watch his acclaimed Wolf Children but I noped after the garbage truck scene.

I've been wanting to do a best animated shorts listing, so I may try to organize it at some point after you finish this one up.

Is The Thief and the Cobbler eligible? Arabian Knight got a theatrical release, IIRC, but TatC itself didn't (which, uh, is understandable given its incomplete nature.) Is the Arabian Knight release sufficient, or would a vote have to be for that specifically?

Also, while World of Tomorrow isn't eligible, as a short, Hertzfeldt's It's Such a Beautiful Day did get a limited theatrical release and is (as much as I've seen) also very good, so take that into consideration. It's currently on Netflix, if you want to take a watch.

Just realised I never replied to this, apologies.

If you are not sure, just put it in the list anyway. If it is not eligible I will just remove it if it would have made the top 100.

(For example there was a vote for Looney Tunes: Back in Action which is a Live Action Hybrid, obviously I know this was ineligible, but if I wasn't sure I would only bother to double check it if it threatens the top 100. Otherwise, it isn't a big deal).

Shorts bundled together as a feature is fine if they were shown as such (e.g a bunch of the early Disney and WB stuff).
