August looks bizarrely dead this year (Fox should move Kingsman 2 there FYI), so they're probably thinking they can take advantage of having zero competition.

Good points. But Nut Job was an abnormally bad film, from what I heard. I guess kids don't care though

Also, Nut Job 2 could be in trouble if Emoji Movie has similar legs to the Angry Birds movie

This year STID took a beating against Bourne's ow in the 2nd weekend and then SS's ow in the 3rd weekend. Wonder if that will motivate pushing a movie or two towards the end of summer.

Alien has like a 0.1% chance of moving back to August.  If something were to move there, Blade Runner 2049 would be more likely.

Alien's not moving back to its original spot. Valerian should get away from being on the same weekend as Dunkirk, even though it looks like something that will bomb no matter when it opens.

What do you consider a suprise? The best I could see it doing is 70-80m which would still be a bomb considering the budget is reportedly 180m.

Kinda sucks that two of the biggest non-sequel live-action properties are opening the same weekend. I'd say one of them (*koff*Dunkirk*koff) breaks out huge ($200m+), while the other (*koff*Valerian*koff*) bombs horribly (sub-$80m). I'd love to see both do well though.
