cannastop
Seems like a good bet, considering that Martin McDonagh got a screenplay nomination in the past.

cannastop
So it looks like a strong year for the original screenplay category as compared to last year. More veteran writers/directors are releasing movies in 2017.

filmlover
First predictions: Original The Big Sick Get Out The Post The Shape of Water Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Adapted Blade Runner 2049 Call Me by Your Name Darkest Hour The Disaster Artist Molly's Game Adapted is really slim this year. Thinking CMBYN wins in a landslide there.

Swap Darkest Hour with The Snowman and those are my predictions.

Does anyone even knows it comes out in two weeks? Haven't seen a single TV spot for it. With the Academy clearly not here for Netflix (and Mudbound because of it) and Last Flag Flying shaping up to be a nonstarter, I guess I'll give the last spot to Stronger. Movie's got the acclaim and is already seriously in the running for an acting nom. Edited October 4, 2017 by filmlover

Jake Gittes
I can see The Death of Stalin in adapted. Its acclaim so far is almost if not on par with In the Loop, and that got nominated. Also think Mudbound might overcome the Netflix thing due to just how weak the field is. James Ivory should be getting that acceptance speech ready, anyway.

Depends on if gets dated for this year. IFC Films still has it listed as a "recent acquisition" on their website.
Jake Gittes
I forgot that October 20 was only a UK release date. Would be dumb of them to postpone it to next year in the States in light of that, anyway.
The Panda
Maybe Logan will be able to pull of a nod here. That fifth spot is really open.
