Eh. It's gonna bomb, but I don't see it bombing quite that hard. And he doesn't really have that bad a track record of getting his sci-fi stuff over 30M. If TGW can get 47M, I can see Valerian limping up there. Even the mid 50M's wouldn't shock me.

There is something legitimate to this, specially if the original material is unknown anyway.

 

In many way, for most people a book adaptation movie like Cloud Atlas or There Will be blood (well that one do not follow the book that much apparently) is more original than many original script (like a classic party comedy, buddy cop, rom-com, Kevin James comedy and so on, that follow proven recipe)

 

I don't have problem with people calling Cloud Atlas, Scott Pilgrim, Guardian of Galaxy or movie like that, "original", same for a biopic like Jackie. Even if it is probably not the best word for them (maybe fresh ? or First time in movies ?)
